Financing history before the shutdown

Linera's financing history makes its shutdown in the Layer-1 space particularly eye-catching. The project raised a total of approximately US$12 million in two rounds of financing announced in 2022 and 2023.

In 2022, the first round of US$6 million financing will be led by a16z Crypto. Subsequently, in 2023, Linera raised another $6 million, with Borderless Capital leading the round. a16z Crypto continues to participate in the second round of investment, co-financing with other investors such as Flow Traders, GSR, Matrixport and Laser Digital.

Linera was founded by Mathieu Baudet, a former Meta researcher who participated in the company's Novi research. Its architecture focuses on microchains and aims to support scalable blockchain applications. Microchains improve response times and support a large number of concurrent activities by decentralizing activities across smaller chains rather than forcing all transactions to pass through a single shared execution flow. Linera sees this architecture as a solution to improve performance and support large-scale activities.
