David Schwartz, honorary chief technology officer of Ripple, recently shared a humorous past from his college days, which sparked widespread discussion and speculation in the XRP holder community. Schwartz's joke rekindled the market's debate.
Market signals behind the pun?
Schwartz recalled his time as a college student while replying to a user on social media platform X. "My standard pickup line in college was,'I'm an electrical engineering major, can you take off your shorts?'" he jokes. But it never works."
This sentence, which cleverly uses the pun between "shorts" in electrical engineering terms and "short positions" in financial trading, quickly caught the attention of the XRP investor community. Renowned cryptocurrency analyst ILLY (@Illyriannft) retweeted Schwartz's post and appealed to traders: "Close your XRP short positions." He interpreted the joke as an implicit hint of market sentiment, warning traders to be wary of current short positions in XRP.
