Polygon's cumulative stablecoin transfers exceeded US$3 trillion, and the recent growth rate is more significant than the milestone itself.
Polygon's cumulative stablecoin transfers has exceeded US$3 trillion. However, compared with this milestone figure, the recent speed of reaching a trillion-level may be more analytical. According to official Polygon data, since January 2025, approximately US$1.67 trillion-accounting for 55% of its historical total stablecoin transfers-has been circulated between networks.
Specifically, Polygon's processing capacity will reach US$933 billion in 2025, much higher than US$276 billion in 2024; and as of the beginning of 2026, it has increased by another US$741 billion this year. This means that in the past 21 months, the value of stablecoins flowing through Polygon has exceeded the network's previous four years combined.
Initial results in the transformation of payments strategy
This acceleration of growth is closely related to Polygon's shift in strategic focus: from relying mainly on decentralized finance (DeFi) and NFT narratives in the past to building payment infrastructure. According to Polygon, a number of major payment companies, including Revolut, Mastercard, Cash App, Deel and Tazapay, have connected to the network. The Revolut family alone completed a US$810 million transfer through Polygon in 2025; in addition, PayPal USD (PYUSD) was also natively deployed to the chain this summer.
The move continues Polygon's "Open Money Stack" plan proposed earlier this year. At that time, Polygon began to position itself as an end-to-end stablecoin infrastructure provider, rather than just a blockchain settlement layer.
Infrastructure expands with business size
As transaction volume surges, Polygon continues to upgrade its payment capabilities. An upgrade in June this year increased network capacity to 5000 payments per second; a subsequent "Ithaca" upgrade introduced a safeguard mechanism to ensure that transactions could continue to flow even if block producers stalled. Polygon said that in the new proxy payment test, when transactions were settled in batches, the verification payment speed exceeded 11 million per second.
In addition to improving throughput, Polygon is also expanding the functional dimensions of its payment infrastructure. The platform has introduced a private stablecoin payment function based on zero-knowledge proof technology, which hides the sender, recipient and transaction amount. This feature is especially designed for institutional users.
Data shows that Polygon's growth is increasingly dependent on an overall transition to stablecoin payments rather than purely speculative activity on the chain.
