Charles Hoskinson calls for Gemini to launch ADA

As cryptocurrency exchange Gemini celebrated its 11th anniversary, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson issued a short two-word reply to "List ADA", calling on Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss.

Gemini supports multiple competing proof-of-stake (PoS) cryptocurrencies, but has so far not publicly explained why it excludes Cardano's ADA tokens from its trading list. Hoskinson estimates that Gemini has lost approximately $70 million in revenue over the past five years because it does not provide ADA trading services, while rival exchanges earn fees from ADA transactions.

Long-term Appeal and Platform Standards

According to Hoskinson's response on Platform X, the message "List ADA" appeared below Winklevoss 'post celebrating Gemini's 11th anniversary. The request continues an activity that spans years, and although Gemini supports other competing proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies, the ADA has not yet been launched. Gemini provided assets such as Solana, Avalanche, Polkadot, Cosmos and Tezos, but did not publicly explain the specific reasons for excluding Cardano.

Cardano supporters have repeatedly questioned this omission, questioning why the exchange supports other mature blockchain assets but does not provide ADAs. Gemini's listing framework considers factors such as maturity, liquidity, market demand, practicality, technical design and regulatory requirements when evaluating new assets. In addition, its assessment scope also covers cybersecurity threats, legal considerations, illegal financial risks and concentration of asset control. These standards outline Gemini's general review process, but do not clearly state which considerations are preventing ADA from launching on its platform.

Estimates of $70 million in revenue loss

Hoskinson's challenge to Gemini dates back to December 2022, when the exchange faced difficulties related to crypto lender Genesis during an industry downturn. Comments by the founder of Cardano jokingly linked the exchange's exclusion of ADA to its financial woes and mentioned the collapse of FTX, but ADA spot trading was not launched at the time.

Later that year, in an X Spaces conversation, Hoskinson again joked that Gemini's omission could be in Cardano's favor. In September 2024, Hoskinson stood next to the Gemini booth at an industry event, holding a message written "Wen ADA?" (When will ADA be launched?) Handwritten placards. He tagged Gemini on the X platform and posted a photo urging it to launch ADA, and later criticized the business reasons for the exclusion in a 2025 Blockchain Daily interview.

Cardano founders estimate that Gemini has lost approximately $70 million in revenue over the past five years due to excluding ADA transactions. He cited Binance and Coinbase as examples, pointing out that both competitors generate revenue from Cardano token transactions. The anniversary response reiterated the online requirements, and Gemini has not given a public specific explanation for the ADA's absence.
