Most Americans believe that Trump and his family have improperly used cryptocurrency to make profits

According to the latest poll, most Americans believe that President Donald Trump and his family have improperly made profits through cryptocurrency since returning to the White House. The survey showed that 63% of respondents believed that it was inappropriate for Trump and his family to profit from cryptocurrency in this way, 32% thought it was appropriate, and the rest did not answer.

A higher proportion (69%) of respondents believe that the president's private business interests are influencing his governing decisions. This group includes two-thirds of independents and nine-tenths of Democrats.

Perhaps the most striking finding crosses party lines: About half of Trump's Republican colleagues say they believe the president has allowed business interests to influence his decisions. This is undoubtedly a disturbing result for a president whose campaign platform is "clearing the swamp."

Even so, about 70% of Republicans believe the family's cryptocurrency trading is appropriate. The online poll was conducted from August 14 to 17 and surveyed 1166 American adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The data provide a hard basis for a controversy surrounding Trump's second term. Financial disclosures released earlier this year showed that he made more than $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency projects including World Liberty Financial and its own brand "memin." The numbers have prompted multiple attempts by Democrats to curb it, from a bill pushed by senators to ban elected officials from issuing "mein" to Senate Democrats calling for a hearing on what they call the "president's huge cryptocurrency gains."

The White House refuted any allegations of misconduct. The spokesman said there was no conflict of interest and that the president only put public interests first. At the same time, the president himself insisted that he did not participate in the daily operations of the family business and that its investments were managed by an independent agency.

The poll comes as ethical issues and policy are intertwined. Lawmakers are still debating provisions in the Clarification Act, which would restrict the president's cryptocurrency business before a Senate vote next month.
