ETH Major UK banks complete the world's first cross-bank transaction of tokenized deposits
Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest completed what UK Finance called the "world's first cross-bank transaction using tokenized deposits." This test covered remortgage payment and person-to-person payment scenarios.
Lloyd, National Westminster and Barclays used the new system to complete two remortgage transactions. At the same time, a team of three other banks, including HSBC, tested payment processes related to simulated online market purchases. These efforts are part of the British Financial Organization's "British Tokened Deposits Initiative" project, which aims to verify whether digital versions of British pound bank deposits can flow smoothly between different banks.
Detailed explanation of the testing mechanism for tokenized deposits
Tokenized deposits are regular bank deposits recorded on a blockchain or similar digital ledger. Funds remain as liabilities of the issuing bank and retain the same legal protection as ordinary deposits. Early banking projects operated mainly within a single system, making it difficult to transfer money between different bank customers. The pilot, which aims to promote collaboration among banks, includes Barclays, HSBC, Lloyd's, National Westminster, Nationwide and Santander, and is supported by Quant, EY and Linklaters.

Mackintosh指出，在过去12个月里，包括欧洲同行在内的其他国家一直对该项目表示关注。在美国，The Clearing House于今年6月宣布了自己的跨行代币化存款项目。与此同时，英国政府预计将在2027年第一季度末完成其数字国债工具（DIGIT）的首笔交易。
