Inflows from ETFs appear to be driving real demand for XRP, but this demand is also facing continued selling pressure and continued capital flows across the cryptocurrency market. Analysts point out that ETF-driven buying does not exist in isolation and often competes with selling by existing holders, trading liquidity on exchanges and position placement in derivatives markets.
ETF Growth and Competitive Capital Flows
Recent research shows that the number of XRP tokens held by ETFs now exceeds 1 billion. It is worth noting that at the beginning of this month, despite net outflows from Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana spot ETFs, funds continued to flow into XRP-related funds, highlighting a shift in investor preferences.
As the leading large-cap crypto asset, XRP remains one of the most liquid digital tokens, allowing ETF purchases to compete with other market activities. The ongoing tug-of-war between buyers and sellers has kept prices under pressure despite strong capital inflows.
After the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act with a 49 - 50 procedural vote (one vote short of the 60 votes needed), the price of XRP fell nearly 10% on September 15, from approximately $1.42 to $1.28. At the time, ETF funds still held approximately 1.1 billion tokens, indicating that demand for ETFs remained even during the sell-off period.
Despite these inflows, the accumulation of ETFs failed to offset a wave of trading dominated by macro factors, regulatory uncertainty, and speculative selling pressure that dominated trading after the Senate resolution.
