Cardano founder pressured Gemini to go public with ADA, saying it missed $70 million in revenue

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson once again calls on the Gemini exchange to launch ADA tokens

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently relaunched a public campaign urging Gemini, a major U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, to launch its native ADA token. The call comes on the heels of Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss's announcement on the X platform celebrating the exchange's 11th anniversary. Hoskinson replied directly in the comment area: "Online ADA."

Gemini's asset placement policy comes under review

Over the years, Gemini has supported transactions in multiple cryptocurrencies, including assets such as Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), Polkadot (DOT), Cosmos (ATOM) and Tezos (XTZ). Despite the continuous expansion of asset categories, Cardano's native asset ADA is absent from the exchange's trading options.

Gemini's official listing policy states that the exchange will evaluate potential listing projects based on criteria such as asset maturity, liquidity, market demand, practicality, regulatory environment, cybersecurity risks and concentration of control. However, Gemini has never publicly explained why it has not launched ADA, nor has it commented on the matter.

Many Cadano supporters question why the ADA, one of the largest proof-of-stake (PoS) cryptocurrencies, failed to land on Gemini, especially since the exchange has accepted other leading tokens of its kind.

Hoskinson's continued push

Charles Hoskinson has been publicly advocating for the inclusion of ADA on the Gemini platform for years. In December 2022, when Gemini faced challenges from crypto lender Genesis, Hoskinson said that not launching ADA seemed to be "highly correlated" with bankruptcy or reckless risk-taking behavior. At the time, the FTX collapse also attracted widespread attention because the exchange had never launched the ADA spot market.

Later that year, during a live Twitter Spaces event, Hoskinson further elaborated on his point: "We're still not on Gemini. It turns out that this may be a good thing because FTX didn't launch us either." he said jokingly.

This relaxed teasing continues into September 2024. At the time, Hoskinson displayed a handwritten placard in front of a Gemini booth at a cryptocurrency event that read "Wen ADA?" (When will ADA be launched?), He later posted the photo on the X platform with an accompanying text saying: "I'm just saying...@Gemini."

In an interview with Blockchain Daily in 2025, Hoskinson's tone became more strident, pointing out that Gemini was the last major U.S. exchange to still exclude its platform. He estimates that Gemini may have lost $70 million in revenue over the past five years because it did not open up ADA transactions.

Hoskinson suggested that competing trading platforms like Binance and Coinbase gain financial benefits by providing ADA services, thereby gaining market share and community attention, which is what Gemini lacks.

Industry News and Tools

In an environment where decisions by U.S. regulators or altcoin listings can change the landscape of the crypto market in seconds, traders are increasingly turning to privacy-first platforms to simplify operations. Many investors are now adopting solutions such as CryptoApps, which integrate real-time charts, customized news and market data without creating an account.

These integrated tools provide portfolio tracking, currency-specific news feeds, and macroeconomic indicators in a single interface, helping traders respond quickly to breaking news, including changes in currencies on exchanges that are being sought for ADA.
