Bitcoin returns to US$83,000, rekindling optimism in the cryptocurrency market

On Friday, after a challenging week of cryptocurrencies and related stocks, Bitcoin rebounded moderately and the price rebounded to around US$83,000. Although bitcoin prices are still down nearly 34% from their all-time high, this rebound shows that crypto investors have regained confidence.

Related stocks performed strongly

Shares of Coinbase, the leading U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, rose nearly 5% in Friday trading. Shares of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), a publicly traded company led by Michael Saylor and a major institutional holder of Bitcoin, rose about 2.2% in pre-market trading. In addition, Robinhood, a brokerage platform that allows trading in cryptocurrencies and stocks, also recorded gains, reflecting investors 'selective risk-appetite strategies towards crypto-related stocks.

Bitcoin itself has gained about 1% to 1.5% in the past 24 hours, recovering from a previous decline that hit a low of $81,000. The rise was accompanied by improving global market sentiment, with investors looking for opportunities amid volatility.

Energy Markets and Macroeconomic Impact

In the broader market, Brent crude oil prices fell about 1.5% to about US$103 a barrel. Falling oil prices will help ease short-term inflation concerns about risky assets, including cryptocurrencies. Lower oil prices could also allay concerns that central banks such as the Federal Reserve will tighten further monetary policy in response to inflation.

Analysts pointed out that movements in the energy and bond markets are closely watched by cryptocurrency investors, as rising bond yields and increased energy costs tend to make traditional assets more attractive, putting pressure on digital assets.

Institutional Goals and Treasury Expansion

Coinbase remains sensitive to both cryptocurrency price movements and regulatory changes. The company's revenue relies on transaction volume, institutional product growth and progress in subscription services. Morgan Stanley recently raised its price target for Coinbase shares to $258 from $250. Instead, Citizens Bank lowered its price target to $280 from $325, reflecting different views on the company's prospects.

Strategy continues to increase its holdings as a proxy investment target for Bitcoin exposure. According to publicly disclosed information, the company purchased an additional 334 BTC in its most recent purchase, bringing its total position to 848,000 bitcoins.

Bitcoin previously reached a high of approximately US$126,080 in October 2025, and then entered a long adjustment period. The digital asset once fell to about US$58,000 in the summer of 2026, but rebounded more than 40% from its low point amid volatile risk sentiment.

Bitcoin has faced resistance in recent months as financial conditions have tightened and government bond yields have risen, making alternative investments more attractive. Coupled with volatile oil prices, these headwinds led to a sharp sell-off, sending Bitcoin below $83,000 and triggering widespread leverage liquidations.

Analyst Price Targets and Technical Outlook

Bitcoin's next technical challenge is to break through the price range of US$85,000 to US$87,000, where previous rallies lost momentum.

Citigroup raised its 12-month bitcoin price forecast to $113,000, indicating that some institutional analysts still expect significant upside potential for the world's leading cryptocurrency. This marks the persistence of institutional investor confidence despite recent market fluctuations.

In addition, according to the latest Bitcoin Outlook report released by Coinpaper, digital asset trading company QCP Capital described the US$80,000 to US$82,000 area as an attractive potential entry point.

Market participants continue to pay close attention to technical and macroeconomic signals for clues about the future direction of cryptocurrency asset prices and related stocks.
