Kraken launches fixed-rate rewards: providing up to 6% annualized returns for cash and stablecoins

Kraken has launched a new feature called "Fixed Rate Rewards" on its "Kraken Earn" platform. The service allows eligible customers to lock in cash and stablecoin balances to earn an annualized rate of return (APY) of up to 6%. This product was officially announced on September 3, 2026. Its core concept lies in "predictability": customers can choose the lock-in period and determine the interest rate, keep the interest rate unchanged throughout the lock-up period, and the reward will be in the form of weekly compound interest.

Detailed explanation of the operating mechanism

In the "Fixed Rate Reward" product, customers can choose a lock-in period of three months, six months, twelve months or eighteen months. Generally, the longer the term, the higher the corresponding interest rate. Once interest rates are locked in, subsequent market fluctuations will only affect the newly invested funds, but will not affect the established return of the committed funds. Rewards are calculated on a weekly compound basis and support optional automatic renewal functions; when the contract expires, the system will automatically roll over funds to the next cycle using the current prevailing rate for the same period. If the user turns off the automatic renewal option, the funds will be returned directly to the user at the end of the period. Kraken designed the product as a simple and straightforward way to help users generate revenue from idle cash and stablecoins.

Supported Assets, Terms and Availability

The service supports eligible fiat balances in U.S. dollars and euros, as well as stablecoins such as USDT, USDC and USDG. Currently,"Fixed Rate Reward" is available on Kraken's consumer and professional apps (including web and mobile). However, participation eligibility is affected by geographical area and compliance restrictions and is not available in all markets. Especially in the United States, participation is limited to accredited investors. As a core hub for Kraken's revenue-earning products, the addition of the "Kraken Earn" series of features also marks the company's broader strategy to expand into bank-proximity services for cryptocurrency users.

Designed to retain customers through predictable earnings

For Kraken, this release is part of a series of product updates aimed at improving platform Retention rate for retail institutions and institutional customers. Previously, Kraken had taken measures such as increasing ETH/USD margin leverage to 20 times and establishing bank cooperation with SoFi. John Zettler, Kraken's director of Earn and Trade, said the shift was a response to the market's demand for certainty: "Many Kraken customers who hold cash or stablecoins share a common need: a clear, fixed rate of return on cash." By locking in interest rates rather than letting them fluctuate with the market, Kraken is betting that savers who want stable returns and avoid unexpected fluctuations in variable-yield products will resonate with this predictable reward model.
