Shibburn data shows that 707.5 million SHIBs were destroyed in the past 30 days, with little actual impact.
As of Thursday morning, Shibburn platform statistics showed that a total of 707,506,927 Shiba Inu (SHIB) tokens were destroyed in the past 30 days, of which 1,945,872 were destroyed in the past 24 hours. If calculated based on the circulation supply of 585.48 trillion pieces, this ratio is only 0.000121%; based on the price of 0.000054 US dollars at the time, the total value of tokens destroyed in this month is approximately 3,820 US dollars. Only by combining the two reference points of "proportion of supply" and "dollar value" can news headlines for destroying data be readable.
Shiba Inu and the 707.5 million tokens destroyed in the past 30 days
The so-called "destruction" refers to the transfer of tokens to an address where no one holds a private key. These tokens are still visible on the chain, but can no longer be moved, reducing the circulation supply on the books. For Shiba Inu, Shibburn summarizes these transfers and publishes daily, weekly and monthly totals.
The three data released on October 9 differ significantly: 1,945,872 pieces in 24 hours, 401,302,586 pieces in 7 days, and 707,506,927 pieces in 30 days. As a result, although a week accounts for less than a quarter of the three-month cycle, weekly data accounts for 56.7% of the monthly total. This suggests that a single large transfer is enough to distort statistics for weeks.
Significance of 707.5 million SHIBs relative to 585.48 trillion in circulation
Most reports tend to stop at ratio analysis. Divide 707,506,927 by 585,482,205,001,143 and the result is 0.0000120842, which is 0.000121%. If current destruction rates are maintained, approximately 8.49 billion SHIBs will be destroyed a year, and it will take approximately 690 years to eliminate a single percentage of current supply. It theoretically takes as long as 34,000 years to achieve halving supply.
This calculation is not a prediction, but an extrapolation based on the current speed, revealing only the magnitude of the mechanism's action. Unless a frame of reference is specified, 700 million may sound huge, but it is actually insignificant compared to the total of 585 trillion yuan.
Shibarium and ShibTorch: How transaction fees translate into token destruction
Shibarium is the project's self-built network. As a second-layer network on top of Ethereum, it packages transactions and settles them at a lower cost. There, the basic fee for the transaction is accumulated in the online currency BONE, which is then converted into a SHIB and sent to the destruction address. This mechanism is called ShibTorch.
This means a noteworthy consequence: Destruction speeds follow network load rather than calendar cycles. There is no fixed timetable for the specific number of disappearances per month. When there are fewer settlements on Shibarium, destruction also drops, leaving only a few million tokens destroyed on a calm day, as shown by 1,945,872 in the past 24 hours.
The reverse verification of the destruction of news headlines starts with the two missing lines: percentage of supply and dollar value.
Due to the extremely small base, the destruction rate seems to have soared by thousands of percentage points
There were reports in early October that destruction rates had increased by thousands of percentage points. Such percentages appear when comparing with a calm yesterday. If the daily data climbs from 1.9 million to 297 million, the increase will exceed 15,000%, although the absolute number still accounts for only a few hundred thousand of the supply. Current figures show fluctuations in the opposite direction: the average daily destruction volume in the past week was approximately 57.3 million, compared with only 1,945,872 in the past 24 hours, equivalent to 3.4% of the weekly average, a decrease of more than 96%. This data can also be used as a news headline, and the mechanism itself has not changed. The lack of absolute numbers and reference point rates explains little about the actual situation of Shiba Inu.
Balance of destroyed addresses on the chain: 410.437 trillion SHIB
The only data that cannot be whitewashed is the balance of destroyed addresses. The most famous address ends in "2069" and, according to Ethplorer, held 410,437,103,366,901 SHIBs as of October 9. This accounted for approximately 41% of the initial trillion pieces when they were created in 2020, and mainly resulted from a large-scale one-time destruction operation in May 2021.
Shibburn calculated the total amount of all destruction as 410,844,855,570,460 SHIBs. There is a difference of approximately 407.75 billion between this and the 2069 address balance, which is due to the fact that the counter has accumulated multiple destruction addresses. By comparing the two side by side, we can clearly see the scale gap between the current continuous destruction volume and the historical stock: 707.5 million pieces a month only accounts for 0.00017% of the existing address storage volume.
Add 323.5 million tokens in four days: Jump in 30-day balance
On October 5, data showed that Shiba Inu's 30-day destruction balance was 384 million pieces. Four days later, the same counter showed 707.5 million. The increase of 323.5 million pieces increased the monthly balance by 84.2%, mainly due to a single large transfer in early October, which also explains why the weekly figure reached 401.3 million pieces.
Because of this, monthly data should never be considered a trend indicator. The number is a rolling window: once the large transfer moves out of the 30-day cycle four weeks later, the number will be halved again without any human intervention. The same mechanism would then generate news headlines about the "collapse" of destruction activities.
Average daily transaction volume of US$91.7 million versus a monthly destruction value of US$3820
The dollar value most quickly reveals the magnitude. At a price of $0.000054 Thursday morning, the 707.5 million tokens destroyed in a month were worth approximately $3,820 (approximately 3,400 euros). The 1,945,872 tokens destroyed in the past 24 hours were worth only US$10.51.
For comparison, trading turnover in 24 hours was US$91.7 million and a market value of US$3.18 billion (data source CoinGecko, as of October 9). As a result, the amount of funds processed in a single trading day is approximately 24,000 times the amount destroyed and withdrawn from circulation for an entire month. SHIB prices are formed on the demand side, while within one month, the supply side is almost unaffected by this mechanism.
Tabular data sources: Destruction data from Shibburn, prices and supplies from CoinGecko, both as of October 9. The total value is purely arithmetic based on today's price and is not a cost actually paid by anyone.
Each destruction transfer is disclosed on the chain, and the balance at the destruction address can be checked at any time.
Holding period, euro 1000 threshold and tax impact of destruction news
For German investors, it is the holding period, not destruction statistics, that determines the tax on SHIB sales. According to Article 23 of the German Income Tax Act, income from private disposal is exempt from tax if the interval between purchase and sale exceeds one year. Below this period, a threshold of € 1000 per year applies and all private disposals are aggregated; once this threshold is exceeded, all gains are subject to tax, not just the excess.
Destroying news does not change this calculation because it does not generate revenue inflows. Selling for news headlines before the one-year deadline approaches could mean paying income taxes that would otherwise be tax-exempt in a few weeks. What purchase and sales records are required by the tax authority to record, and what tools to track holding periods by batch, as detailed in the overview of crypto tax software and combination trackers.
Price difference, minimum order size, and the importance of the eighth decimal place of the SHIB
At a price of US$0.000054, the eighth decimal place determines the price you pay. At this scale, a change to one decimal place is equivalent to approximately 0.18% price fluctuations. In many trading venues, bid-ask spreads are several times higher than this base.
In the past 24 hours, SHIB prices have fluctuated between US$0.0000510 and US$0.00000546, with a range of 7.1%. Orders placed hastily due to news headlines will fall into this range at random prices. Before purchasing, be sure to check the actual fee structure and price differences at the relevant trading venue.
On Thursday morning, SHIB rose 0.5%, while Ethereum fell 2.4%, Dogecoin fell 2.1%, and Solana fell 3.6%. In contrast, SHIB fell 7.9% in seven days. The small one-day increase in the weak week is not a signal and has nothing to do with destruction.
Reverse verification of destroyed news headlines: Proportion, Dollar Value and Address Balance
Reverse verification requires two data and a calculator. The first is to clarify the amount of destruction during the reporting period, and the second is the current circulating supply. Divide by it to get the proportion, and multiply the amount destroyed by the price to get the dollar value.
There are three points that can reliably expose exaggerated reports: there is no absolute number of percentages missing the reference base; 24-hour data without weekly and monthly data to support the fact that the statistics are dominated by a single transfer; and destruction data without price conversions makes it impossible to tell whether millions or double-digit dollars are involved. Currently, for SHIB, it is a double-digit daily amount.
Destroying the balance of the address itself is a re-verification of the de-verification. It is publicly visible on Ethplorer and can be compared week by week. If the growth rate does not reach the magnitude claimed, the report is erroneous.
Conclusion: A monthly destruction balance of 0.000121% is the full effect
Before trading, convert each destruction news headline into two numbers: proportion of supply and value in euros. When the ratio was 0.000121% per month as it is today, the headline was only news about mechanisms, not news about supply.
Observe the price range before placing each order. SHIB fluctuated by 7.1% over 24 hours, plus the spread. Record the purchase date of each batch. The one-year holding period in Article 23 of the German Income Tax Law has a much greater impact on the amount involved in SHIB than any destruction statistics, and it is run separately on a per purchase basis.
