CryptoQuant: Bitcoin must hold on to $74,600, government transfers triggered a 7% decline

Bitcoin is facing the dual pressure of government transfers and profit-taking orders, and needs to hold on to key support levels.

Bitcoin is currently trading at US$82,529.31, down nearly 4% in the past week. The price correction follows a 7% drop from recent highs. On-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant attributed the weak trend to the massive transfer of bitcoin by the U.S. government and the impact of holders 'huge unrealized profits.

Government bitcoin transfers increase market pressure

CryptoQuant reported that since October 6, Bitcoin positions tracked by the U.S. government have dropped by 17,468 BTC, and the total balance has dropped to 174,481 BTC. These transfers were worth approximately US$1.44 billion, including 569 BTC, 4,632 BTC and 12,267 BTC that were moved over three days, respectively. Although it is unclear whether the coins were sold immediately, the transfers are consistent with Bitcoin's recent correction.

Due to its possible impact on market prices, the U.S. government bitcoin transfers have attracted great attention. Although there is no direct evidence that all transferred coins have entered the market, increased government activity has often upset investors during the recent rally.

CryptoQuant points to another source of vulnerability: high unrealized profits held by investors. As these profits accumulate, periods of weak prices tend to induce holders to take profits, which can exacerbate the downward trend if demand cannot offset increased supply.

CryptoQuant pointed out: "The U.S. government's bitcoin transfers triggered a correction, but the market itself is already very fragile due to high unrealized profits."

Short-term holders also increased their selling pressure, sending 45,600 BTC to exchanges in one day. Among them, 29,100 BTC was moved at a loss-the largest loss-side transfer since June, reflecting the recent increase in pressure on buyers. Exchange deposits do not guarantee immediate sales, but usually signals that holders are preparing to reduce exposure.

Focus on Key Support and Resistance Levels

CryptoQuant emphasizes that US$74,600 is a key realization price for short-term holders-a level that represents the basis for the average cost of acquiring Bitcoin for investors in the near term. Maintaining prices above this point suggests that bull market momentum is still there; a clear break below this level could open up room for a greater correction.

Technical analyst Dami-Defi refers to $82,500 as an "immediate decision point" and notes that the level coincides with previous May highs and now serves as short-term support. According to Dami-Defi's analysis, Bitcoin recently reached a high of $86,996, before falling back to around $82,416.

Price Level Significance $86,996 Recent local highs $82,500 Immediate support/decision point $76,500 Potential Low Support Level $74,600 Key thresholds for short-term holders

If the weekly close is below $82,500, Bitcoin may test the $76,500 and $74,000 areas. Traders often use these levels to assess near-term risk rather than as precise price targets.

The momentum indicator shows a mixed situation. Dami-Defi pointed out that Bitcoin's weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) was 57.77, showing a slight bullish bias, and the MACD histogram remained positive despite weakening momentum.

Dami-Defi commented: "Bitcoin's weekly recovery is testing supply pressure above, with the current candle stepping back to $82,416 after hitting $86,996. The critical immediate decision point is about $82,500."

Analyst Lennaert Snyder identified several resistance areas after liquidation of more than $1 billion of long positions. He flagged potential obstacles at $84,000,$85,000,$87,400 and $90,000 and said a strong rebound after falling below $80,000 could be a new opportunity for traders.

As government activity and investor profits weigh on sentiment, Bitcoin's close-up outlook depends on US$82,500 support and the crucial US$74,600 level for short-term holders.
