The XRP vulnerability serves as a warning sign: the network is creating 100 million tokens out of th

The XRPL vulnerability was once a warning: The incident of creating 100 million tokens out of thin air sparked safety concerns.

The recent exploitation of Autheo Network provided additional context to the warnings issued by cryptocurrency enthusiast Jenna. She pointed out that the experiences with the XRP Ledger have already served as clear warnings.

After reporting that 100 million $THEO tokens were created without authorization, Jenna posted on the X platform (formerly Twitter): “Please note that the XRPL vulnerability is indeed a warning.” She added, “@Autheo_Network just created 100 million tokens out of thin air. Goodbye, $THEO. Does XRPL seem quite safe and secure now?”

Jenna’s post compared two completely different security incidents. There was a serious vulnerability in the XRP Ledger, which could have allowed attackers to create an enormous amount of XRP. However, developers discovered and fixed this flaw before it could be exploited in the main network. In contrast, Autheo suffered an actual security attack, resulting in the unauthorized creation of 100 million $THEO tokens.

Autheo is facing the consequences of unauthorized token creation.

The Autheo incident exposed vulnerabilities in the project’s token issuance and liquidity management mechanisms. Attackers exploited these weaknesses to create 100 million $THEO tokens. This sudden increase in supply put significant pressure on the price of cryptocurrencies, as it diluted the holdings of existing holders. Additionally, this undermined liquidity and reduced market confidence in the project. This explains why Jenna openly stated “Goodbye, $THEO”. She linked this unauthorized token issuance to the broader risks associated with having control over the project’s token supply.

The XRPL vulnerability was fixed before it could be exploited

. The warning mentioned by Jenna referred to a critical XRP Ledger vulnerability discovered by Veria Labs between late September and early October 2026. An AI security agent identified an old flaw in the payment engine’s settlement logic. This vulnerability combined overflow attacks with mechanisms for bypassing balance limits, theoretically allowing attackers to create up to 18.4 trillion XRP in a single transaction.

Despite these risks, no unauthorized XRP generation incidents have occurred since the launch of the mainnet. RippleX engineers quickly responded to the vulnerability and released an emergency patch, xrpld v3.4.1, within three days.

This rapid response distinguishes the XRPL incident from Autheo’s attack. While the XRPL vulnerability posed a serious threat, developers were able to fix it before the attacker could exploit it. In contrast, Autheo suffered the consequences after the attacker successfully utilized its token issuance mechanism.

Why does Jenna believe XRPL now seems “safe”?

Jenna’s final comment, “The XRPL seems to be quite secure and reliable now,” reflects a clear contrast between the two incidents. Her statement doesn’t imply that the XRP Ledger is completely free of vulnerabilities. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of identifying and fixing vulnerabilities before they cause any problems.

The discovery process of XRPL also shows that even old code can still contain serious security risks. However, in this case, researchers identified the problem, and developers quickly took action to resolve it.

For encrypted projects, the difference between early detection of vulnerabilities and responding to attacks after they occur determines whether users receive timely security updates or face a serious crisis related to token supply.
