Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus connects its tokenization and custody platform to Swift blockchain ledgers
Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus announced that its tokenization and custody platform has successfully connected to the blockchain ledgers operated by Swift, thereby expanding the application capabilities of financial institutions in the field of distributed ledger technology.
Key integration details
Taurus said on Wednesday that its customers can now connect their existing digital asset infrastructure directly to Swift's ledger, leveraging bank-issued tokenized deposits for seamless payments. This connection allows Taurus customers to process digital asset transactions more efficiently, eliminating the need for traditional manual processes. The company noted that the first customer integrations will be online in a few days, while the first distributed ledger transactions on its platform are expected to be completed in weeks.
Swift launched a blockchain-based tokenized deposit ledger in July this year, paving the way for a real-time transaction pilot for 17 participating banks across six continents. The system aims to provide a unified coordination layer for cross-border payments, using tokenized assets that rely on banks 'balance sheets.
Implementation of the first cross-border transaction
Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC used Swift's ledgers to complete the first real-time blockchain cross-border transaction. The transaction successfully connected the two banks 'respective tokenized deposit systems, demonstrating the interoperability of multiple platforms in achieving high-value cross-border settlements. This new infrastructure coordinates transfers between financial institutions before final settlement, which still takes place through existing mechanisms, including a real-time full settlement system.
Representative Taurus said that this is an important step in modernizing global payment infrastructure by using blockchain and tokenization technology to improve the efficiency and transparency of cross-border settlement. Taurus enables financial institutions to access blockchain-based real-time payments that seamlessly integrate with Swift's ledgers, while processing tokenized deposits with greater security and lower operational friction.
By implementing tokenized asset support, financial networks can simplify previously fragmented payment channels, reduce counterparty risk, and improve transaction traceability to meet regulatory compliance and audit requirements.
The Impact of Web3 on Traditional Finance
While financial institutions continue to promote infrastructure modernization through blockchain solutions such as Swift ledgers, the traditional financial sector is also deeply exploring integration with Web3 technology. As major market participants experiment with new models, related platforms allow investors to bypass traditional brokerages and hold shares of major U.S. company stocks, gold and silver directly in their crypto wallets. These platforms support instant tokenization of real-world assets and leverage automated systems to ensure optimal market prices without intermediaries, highlighting the growing preference for decentralized asset management and digital custody.
The dual driving force of institutional ledger integration and Web3 platform tokenization may lay the foundation for further integration of digital assets and traditional assets, thereby redefining the way assets are traded and stored on a global scale.
