The "Double Deflation" Proposal Passed within the Solana Ecosystem

The "Double Deflation" Proposal, which has attracted the attention of the Solana Ecosystem, was passed at the last minute of the vote due to a change of position at the verification node of major institutions. The proposal aims to increase Solana's annual deflation rate to 30% from the current 15%, thereby slowing the growth of SOL supply more quickly.

One of the key stages of the voting was Kraken's change of position. Kraken, who initially voted no, changed his vote from "no" to "yes" after receiving feedback from Solana users. Following the decision, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi said hosting service providers should not be the decisive role in the process.

In the final stage of voting, there was great uncertainty about whether the proposal could be passed. Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz has pointed out that the proposal needs another 1% to 2% support to pass. However, shortly before the vote closed, Galaxy Digital's shift in position upset the balance. After Galaxy, which had previously abstained from voting, converted most of its votes to "yes", its approval rating exceeded the required 66.67% threshold.

Based on current forecasts, this change will reduce the number of SOLs entering the market by approximately 18.9 million units over the next six years. At current prices, this equates to a reduction of approximately $1.47 billion in token issuance.
