Solana validators approve double anti-inflation proposal, reducing SOL issuance.
Solana validators have approved a governance proposal to double the network's annual anti-inflation rate, accelerating future reductions in SOL token issuance.
Proposal SGP-0002 sparked an online discussion
The proposal, numbered SGP-0002, also known as the "Double Anti-Inflation Plan," will increase Solana's annual Anti-Inflation Rate from 15% to 30%. Despite the accelerated cuts, the Internet's final inflation target remains at 1.5% per year.
The voting result of SGP-0002 ended with 67% support, 25.16% opposition, and 7.84% abstention. The voting participation rate reached 60.7% of eligible pledges, showing extensive community participation.
Based on the new inflation timetable, Solana is expected to reach a final inflation rate of 1.5% in approximately 2.8 years, compared with approximately 5.7 years under the previous model. According to data from tracking platform Solana Compass, this adjustment will reduce SOL circulation by approximately 18.9 million units over the next six years, aiming to reduce the dilution effect on SOL holders and reduce pledge rewards for verifiers and principals.
(Note: Solana Compass is an independent Solana blockchain analysis and governance tracking platform that provides real-time data on validator votes, online inflation and historical indicators.)
Schedule comparison
Previous plan: The final inflation rate is 1.5%, the time required to reach the final inflation rate is more than 5.7 years, and the cumulative number of new SOL issued within six years is approximately 18.9 million. After adopting SGP-0002: the final inflation rate is 1.5%, the time required to reach the final inflation rate is 2.8 years, and the cumulative new SOL issuance will decrease by approximately 18.9 million units within six years.
The positions of the main validators are clearly divided
SGP-0002 is Solana's first such binding governance vote. In the process, the community also approved the new Solana Constitution and rejected another proposal on resources and included fees.
Some of the most influential validators have sharply opposed positions. Figment holds 17.1 million SOL voting rights and is a well-known pledge service provider, all of which voted against the double anti-inflation plan. In contrast, validator operators Helius and Jupiter strongly supported the proposal.
As one of the largest SOL validators, the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Kraken voted against it at the beginning of the voting, resulting in a support rating below the approval threshold. But before the deadline, Kraken reversed his stance, and more than 90% of his 8.9 million SOL voting rights ultimately supported the proposal.
Some of Solana's largest stakeholders, such as Figment and Kraken, changed their positions during the voting process, and SGP-0002 was eventually passed with 67% support and a voting rate of 60.7%.
Solana ETF continues to grow amid fluctuations
The governance development comes as the U.S. -listed Solana investment vehicle is still attracting large amounts of money. Bitwise's Solana ETF recently exceeded US$1 billion in asset management, becoming the first Solana exchange-traded fund to meet this threshold. This achievement was posted on the X platform by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.
It is reported that the cumulative net inflow of Solana ETF in the United States has reached US$1.7 billion, and the outflow has been extremely small since the launch of these products.
As Bitwise's Solana ETF asset management exceeded US$1 billion, total inflows from these funds reached US$1.7 billion, indicating that institutional interest continues despite previous fluctuations in $SOL.
