The company behind Unicoin has filed a federal lawsuit against Uniswap Labs, arguing for non-conflict of trademarks

Transparency Business Inc. (Unicoin's operating company) filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in Federal Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking the court to determine that its "UNICOIN" trademark did not conflict with a trademark held by the decentralized exchange operator. The complaint lists three trademarks Uniswap claims to own-UNI, UNISWAP and UNICHAIN-and asks the court to declare that "UNICOIN" does not constitute infringement or dilution. In addition, Unicoin also requested the revocation of Uniswap's existing U.S. UNI Trademark Registering.

issued a warning letter first, and the lawsuit followed

The dispute did not begin in the court. In about two and a half months, Uniswap's legal team sent three legal letters to Unicoin on June 3, July 17 and August 14. Each letter accuses Unicoin of trademark infringement, trademark dilution, cybersquatting and unfair competition, and requires the company to stop using "UNICOIN" and any other logos that begin with "UNI".

In addition to the disputed logo itself, Uniswap's letter also required Unicoin to hand over the Unicoin.com and Unicoin.org domain names, submit detailed revenue and profit accounts, and bear Uniswap's legal fees. Faced with these requirements, Unicoin chose to resort to the law rather than comply.

The indictment also includes a separate request to declare that the two domain names did not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits the malicious registration of domain names that are highly similar to existing trademarks.

The timing of the lawsuit coincides with the planned launch of Unicoin

Unicoin has set a public launch date for its UNCN tokens as September 28. The lawsuit was filed weeks before this date, making the trademark dispute an active court proceeding as the company moves forward with the token release.

As of press time, Uniswap had not responded to requests for comment. Recent data shows that the Uniswap protocol ranks first among all decentralized exchanges in terms of 24-hour transaction volume, recording transaction volume exceeding US$3.9 billion.
