XRP Jazzi Cooper, product leader at Ripple: Institutional credit may become a breakthrough application scenario for XRP
Jazzi Cooper, product leader at Ripple, pointed out that institutional credit may be a potential breakthrough application scenario for XRP and emphasized the value of using this digital asset as collateral. Cooper emphasized that although interest in the chain finance sector continues to grow, institutional credit remains an under-tapped blue ocean in the cryptocurrency sector.
Progress in XRPL lending infrastructure
Cooper focused on the latest developments in XRPL (XRP Ledger) lending infrastructure, particularly noting the importance of the XLS-65 and XLS-66 Amendments. Among them, XLS-65, known as the "Single Asset Treasury" amendment, aims to aggregate the assets of multiple depositors and provide a basic framework for the upcoming online lending agreement.
On this basis, XLS-66 introduced a lending agreement to support on-chain term unsecured loans by leveraging the pool of funds in a "single asset vault." This mechanism combines off-chain underwriting and risk management processes to assess the borrower's credit status, while maintaining a point-to-point lending model with configurable features.
Currently, these two amendments-the "Lending Agreement" and the "Single Asset Treasury"-are in the voting stage, representing the most significant advance in institutional lending by XRPL to date.
Upcoming upgrades and continued development
Developers have confirmed that XRPL's loan agreement will receive a version 1.1 update in the XRPL 3.4.0 release next week. This upgrade will improve the previous version of Lending v1.0, and it is expected that both "Loan Agreement" and "Single Asset Treasury" will receive continuous enhancements, and their functions will gradually expand over time.
One of the significant changes is LendingProtocolV1_1, which introduces specific improvements and fixes, such as adding the "MemoData" field to the "VaultDelete" transaction, improving the traceability and flexibility of the transaction.
Institutional Cooperation and Market Trends
Recent momentum in the institutional lending space on the XRPL follows the partnership announced by Ripple, Cicada Partners and ClearPool in August 2026. The partnership aims to bring strong institutional lending services to the XRPL ecosystem.
This week, ClearPool outlined its expansion strategy on XRPL, describing the ledger as one of the most mature networks in the institutional lending space and noting that there is still a lot of institutional credit potential waiting to be tapped. ClearPool emphasized that while XRPL is one of the most mature blockchain networks,"institutional credit has not yet been fully utilized," indicating that on-chain lending services have huge growth potential.
As these technological improvements and new collaborations unfold, XRPL's lending protocol infrastructure is placing itself at the heart of institutional financial innovation-echoing a general trend of transitioning traditional financial markets to blockchain-based solutions. While traditional markets have always relied on sophisticated intermediaries, a significant shift is taking place as Wall Street moves to Web3. Investors are increasingly using platforms to hold tokenized shares of top U.S. companies, gold and silver directly in crypto wallets. By converting real-world assets into tokens and automatically obtaining the optimal price, these systems greatly reduce the role of intermediaries.
Ripple's focus on institutional financing and the continued evolution of XRPL's lending solutions suggest that in the near future, on-chain credit products may become a core application scenario in XRP and its supporting ecosystem.
