Robert Kiyosaki: Holding Bitcoin, gold and silver is "insurance" against financial risks
Robert Kiyosaki, author of "Rich Dad Poor Dad", compares the act of owning Bitcoin, gold and silver to purchasing insurance against financial crises. He pointed out that preparing for economic trouble does not mean you have to expect a collapse, and reiterated his criticism of government issuance of money.
Why is it compared to "insurance"?
Kiyosaki believes that inflation and the expansion of money supply are eroding purchasing power. In his view, assets with a limited supply can protect the portfolio against these risks.
In a recent social media sharing, Kiyosaki defined himself as a "financial prepper." He compares preparing for economic problems to buying car insurance. He mentioned a conversation with a woman and emphasized that being prepared does not mean expecting something bad to happen. Car owners buy insurance not because they want an accident to happen, but to be protected if it occurs.
Kiyosaki applied this logic to gold, silver and Bitcoin. He asked during the exchange: "Do you own gold, silver or Bitcoin?" He sums up his investment philosophy in one sentence: Pursue currencies that the government cannot print at will.
The core of this concept is inflation and money supply. Kiyosaki argued that government-issued currencies may lose their purchasing power over time. Since Bitcoin has a fixed upper limit of 21 million coins, it directly fits this theory. However, limited supply does not guarantee that an asset will inevitably retain purchasing power for a specific period of time.
Kiyosaki continues to buy Bitcoin amid declines
Although Kiyosaki's recent remarks have been more cautious than some previous severe warnings of the economic crisis, the basis of his investment strategy has not changed. He has pointed out that rising debt burdens, inflation, energy-related geopolitical tensions and problems with traditional pension systems could together trigger a more serious financial crisis. In times like this, bitcoin, gold and silver are seen as alternatives to traditional fiat savings.
Kiyosaki said he adhered to this strategy even in times of weak markets. A few months ago, while claiming that the financial meltdown was accelerating, he announced that he would continue to accumulate multiple assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, his stance on Bitcoin and Ethereum's decline was not consistent. In June this year, he said he had decided not to buy BTC and ETH, which were cheaper due to the decline. Prices then bottomed out within a week, showing that the market had recovered before he expected price levels.
Kiyosaki's latest sharing shows that his views on Bitcoin and precious metals are based more on financial protection strategies than purely price forecasts. For him, the key is not waiting for a crisis to strike, but ensuring that alternative assets are in his portfolio in such scenarios.
