Zcash short squeeze erased $11.26 million, ZEC exceeded $1,000

Zcash broke through the thousand-dollar mark, and US$13.24 million leveraged short positions were cleared

Core points:

  • Zcash (ZEC) exceeded US$1,000 for the first time since 2018, triggering a forced liquidation of US$13.24 million, forcing a large number of traders holding short leveraged orders to exit.
  • Amid the continued rise, ZEC's monthly increase reached 105%, with an annual increase of 2,395%, and its market value climbed to approximately US$17.25 billion.
  • Grayscale's ZCSH fund assets exceeded US$400 million; at the same time, Zakura's technical tools shortened the build time for private mobile transactions to less than 200 milliseconds.

Shorts suffered a strong squeeze, and market sentiment reversed

Zcash (ZEC) exceeded the US$1,000 mark for the first time since 2018, forcing millions of dollars in leveraged short positions to be closed. On September 4, the privacy token reached $1,051, starting from $805. Previously, ZEC had tried and failed to break through the resistance level of $888, which led some traders to expect another correction.

However, strong buying pressure eventually pushed the token past this key resistance level and triggered a massive short liquidation. Data showed that within 24 hours, ZEC's short clearing amount reached US$13.24 million. Among them, the short liquidation amount was US$11.26 million, while the long liquidation amount was US$1.98 million. The resulting results show that the liquidation imbalance ratio between short and long positions is as high as 562%.

This forced liquidation mechanism requires exchanges to buy tokens for affected short traders, adding additional momentum to existing uptrends. It was this mechanism that supported the momentum of ZEC prices when they broke the $1,000 mark, catching many bear traders off guard.

Institutional admission and technology upgrades jointly drive demand growth

According to CoinGecko's data, ZEC has increased by 105% in the past month, and the increase in the past year has been as high as 2,395%. Its recovery began in October 2025, when ZEC emerged from the trading range that had been formed since June 2022. Previously, the coin price fell to a low of US$7.70 in April 2025, and then gradually recovered as demand strengthened.

In addition to the improvement of the overall market environment, the launch of institutional products and advances in network technology have also greatly increased interest in this privacy-focused cryptocurrency. In late August, Grayscale launched a spot Zcash exchange-traded fund (ETF) that began trading on the Arca section of the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ZCSH. The asset size managed by this product has accumulated more than US$400 million, setting a record high for the fund. In addition, Digital Currency Group has also entered into non-binding negotiations through its subsidiaries for the potential purchase of 200,000 ZECs.

At the same time, Zakura's development team has released a suite of cryptographic tools that significantly shortened the time required to build private mobile transactions. Processing time has been reduced from three seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, which further supports Zcash's application potential as a daily payment method.

ZEC's strong rebound has increased its market value to approximately US$17.25 billion, ranking among the top ten cryptocurrencies in the world. Still, the huge liquidation imbalance also suggests that concentrated leveraged positions can exacerbate price volatility when market expectations change.
