Bitcoin price warning: Old cycle fractals may mislead traders

Bitcoin's rebound from the $80,000 zone has sparked a well-worn debate about how well past market cycles can predict the next correction. Well-known analyst Killa (Twitter account @KillaXBT) challenged the use of historical chart patterns to predict BTC's next move. His argument goes beyond the question of whether Bitcoin is up or down today. Familiar chart patterns may seem convincing, but the market conditions behind them can be very different. Killa believes these differences deserve greater weight before anyone treats past callbacks as a reliable guide.

Killa's warning about Bitcoin prices challenges comparisons with previous cycles

Killa's criticism focuses on "cyclical fractals," which juxtaposes historical price patterns with current charts to identify possible similarities. While these comparisons help explain market behavior, visual similarities do not guarantee that the results are exactly the same. The analyst pointed out that Bitcoin has deviated from the behavioral patterns of previous cycles. His comparison shows that the most recent major decline was about 54%, compared with a retracement of around 77% to 80% in previous cycles.

In 2023, BTC fell by 77%. During the rebound from 16K to 69K, the deepest pullback was about 21%. During this cycle, BTC fell by only 54%, and its severity dropped by about one-third. Applying the same logic, if you reduce the 21% callback by one-third, the maximum callback will be close to 14%. A 14% drop from the high of 87K would put BTC almost exactly around 75K. This is true even if we encounter a full correction starting at 87K. It could also be from 95K to 80K. I don't know yet. So even if a full pullback starts here, we are only about 6% away from that level. Are you really willing to miss out on a potential 60% gain in order to wait for an additional 6% decline? I wouldn't do that. Large capital obviously does not think so. I still believe there may be a more meaningful and broader correction in the 92- 95K area, but it may take time to arrive. For those who are still waiting for 70K: Based on mathematics, market background, and performance this cycle, it is likely that we will never see 70K again. Even testing 75K again would be a blessing. If you expect a callback to replicate previous cycles, you need to adjust your mentality. From the moment it hit bottom, this cycle has been structurally different from previous cycles. It is now an asset to Wall Street.

Killa's Bitcoin price estimates point potential correction to around US$75,000

Killa uses past recovery cases to illustrate his reasoning. His example describes a decline of about 77% before Bitcoin rebounded from $16,000 to $69,000. He set the deepest pullback during that recovery at about 21%. He then compared the decline to the roughly 54% retracement he attributed to the current cycle. As the severity of the newer decline was reduced by about a third, he reduced his previous 21% correction by about the same percentage. This calculation puts a potential pullback at approximately 14%. Applied to the high of $87,000, its position puts the Bitcoin price close to $75,000.

Key levels in his argument include:

  • A 14% drop from $87,000 would bring Bitcoin closer to $75,000.
  • Subsequent pullbacks may start around $95,000 and fall back to around $80,000.
  • The US$92,000 to US$95,000 area remains the area where he prefers a broader correction.

However, this is a proportional estimate, and price corrections do not have to directly scale early bear market losses. The calculation explains Killa's point of view, but does not establish a minimum price or a maximum correction.

Bitcoin price may not return to US$70,000, but Killa's view is still subject to conditional limits

Killa believes there is a high chance that Bitcoin will never return to $70,000. He also argued that waiting for another 6% decline could mean missing out on a potential 60% gain. These numbers describe his views on market opportunities and downside risks. They are still hypothetical results rather than destinations determined by BTC. His broader argument is that the Bitcoin cycle has accelerated and institutional involvement has transformed the market. He ended the post by describing Bitcoin as a "Wall Street asset." Institutional involvement was part of his explanation, but his post did not provide capital flow data to prove that large investors were consistent with their specific goals. A useful distinction lies between his interpretation of the market and the evidence supporting it.

Today's Bitcoin price outlook depends on US$80,000 and US$83,000

Our previous article explained that Bitcoin prices began to rebound after falling towards US$80,000 late Thursday. This rally has brought BTC closer to resistance near $83,000.

BTCUSD Price Chart/ TradingView.com

Looking at Bitcoin price levels shows that the market is consolidating between US$80,000 and US$83,000. These boundaries provide a more direct test of broader cycle predictions than Killa. The indicators provided by the analysis still indicate that the recovery is not yet complete. Bitcoin's RSI of 40.583 is still below 50, so momentum continues to favor sellers. The random indicator reading 48.769 provides limited confirmation of direction. The final oscillator is 42.293, which is also below its neutral midpoint. The Bull-Bear Power is minus 1,197.6041, indicating that despite the rebound, bearish pressure persists.

Today's Bitcoin price scenario remains simple and clear:

  • Bullish scenario: BTC stands firm above $83,000, opening a possible path to $85,000 to $86,000.
  • Neutral scenario: Bitcoin remains between US$80,000 support and US$83,000 resistance.
  • Bear scenario: BTC fell below the US$80,000 support level, putting US$78,000 in the spotlight.

Killa's warning gives readers reason to question automatic comparisons with old cycles. Today's price level provides the next practical test: Can Bitcoin translate its rebound into a sustained recovery, or will resistance force support to be tested again?
