U.S. spot bitcoin ETF inflows have slowed significantly

In the past 13 trading days, U.S. spot bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) inflows have been approximately US$230 million. This growth rate has slowed down significantly compared with the explosive growth of US$1.7 billion in late September.

Key data on capital flows

Since September 22, the spot Bitcoin ETF has attracted a cumulative net inflow of approximately US$230 million in 13 trading days. However, the pressure of capital outflows is equally significant. In the two days on October 7 and 8 alone, about US$730 million was withdrawn from relevant funds.

data showed that almost all of Friday's net inflow of US$21.1 million came from BlackRock's IBIT funds. Meanwhile, Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin fund lost $3.6 million. Among the 12 ETFs participating in the transaction, 9 had zero capital flow that day. In terms of performance throughout the week, IBIT was basically flat, while Fidelity Funds lost about $380 million, accounting for more than half of the week's net outflow.

Review of ETF fund flows

According to SoValues tracking data, investors invested US$999 million in these funds in a single day on September 21, and an additional US$714.8 million the next day. However, total net inflows over the next 13 trading days were only about $234 million, according to Farside Investors.

Currently, traders are closely watching the September consumer price index (CPI) data released on October 14. On the morning of the same day, BlackRock, the world's largest issuer of spot bitcoin ETF, will also announce quarterly earnings. Previously, the Senate failed to pass the closing debate vote on the Clarity Act in mid-September, triggering a large-scale outflow of funds. Later, ETFs ushered in a nine-day net inflow cycle, totaling approximately US$3 billion. After entering October, the previous increase has been greatly wiped out. In the first seven trading days of this month, related funds recorded a cumulative net outflow of US$386.3 million.
