Ripple Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz: Analysis of the possibility that XRP will surpass Bitcoin in market value
David Schwartz, as a veteran figure in Ripple's technology field, once speculated that XRP may surpass Bitcoin in market value. However, he believes that this scenario is more likely to be achieved through a significant increase in the value of XRP rather than relying on a decline in the value of Bitcoin. In a recent social media discussion, Schwartz said that Ripple Network has been positioned since its design as a faster and more scalable solution than Bitcoin.
XRP's growth prospects
Can XRP account for a disproportionate share of the total growth of the cryptocurrency market? Schwartz thinks this is entirely possible. He pointed out that the network's rapid transaction capabilities and broader range of functionality set it apart from Bitcoin. As Ripple's chief technology officer and principal architect at XRP Ledger, he further emphasized the network's potential to occupy a larger share of the crypto space.
Schwartz is optimistic about the prospects of XRP, but he points out that its potential to surpass Bitcoin does not stem from the decline of Bitcoin, but from the strong rise of XRP itself.
Comparison of past and present valuations
Looking back at his views at the beginning of the year, Schwartz was skeptical about the price trend of XRP. At the time, XRP was trading at about $0.006, and even if it rose to $0.25, he thought it was unlikely. He admitted selling some XRP at around $0.10 because he felt the market value was grossly overvalued. A similar situation has happened with Bitcoin, when reaching $100 seemed unimaginable. However, Schwartz emphasized that there is a key difference between the two: the current market value of XRP has far exceeded the market value of Bitcoin when it first exceeded $100.
Levels that were once considered low have become commonplace now, but a uniform measure needs to be maintained when comparing current market values. This insight emphasizes the importance of accurately understanding market changes at different times. As Schwartz points out, while past lows are now the norm, the same standard of measurement is not maintained in market value comparisons today.
Looking back on XRP's historical achievements
XRP has historically surpassed the market value of Ethereum, especially at the end of December 2017. During this period, XRP's market value soared to approximately $86 billion, surpassing Ethereum's $73 billion. This rise makes XRP the world's second-largest cryptocurrency and maintained that position until the end of the year.
Currently, XRP has a market value of approximately US$89.1 billion and a price of US$1.42, ranking fifth in the cryptocurrency rankings. At the same time, Bitcoin's price is approximately $78,693 and its market value is $1.58 trillion. Data shows that the market value of Bitcoin is approximately 17.7 times that of XRP. For XRP, to surpass Bitcoin, in addition to a simple price increase, it also requires a huge valuation increase.
- XRP's current market value is US$89.1 billion.
- Bitcoin has a market value of US$1.58 trillion.
- XRP still ranks fifth in the cryptocurrency rankings.
- Bitcoin's market value is 17.7 times that of XRP.
To surpass Bitcoin, XRP's path will not only rely on further price increases, but will require a comprehensive expansion in market valuation to bridge the existing huge gap. As the crypto world continues to evolve, the development of dynamic relationships between these major cryptocurrencies deserves close attention.
