Analyst: Trump's $5000 stimulus check could push up Bitcoin, gold and land prices
Anthony Pompliano, a prominent investor and cryptocurrency analyst, said President Donald Trump's proposed $5000 stimulus check could push up the prices of Bitcoin, gold and land, reigniting discussions about how government subsidies affect hard asset prices.
Pompigliano posted on Platform X (formerly Twitter):"The more money Washington releases, the higher the prices of Bitcoin, gold and land tend to be." He wrote: "Trump announced yesterday that he will issue a $5000 stimulus check to every citizen. The more money he gives out, the higher the prices of bitcoin, gold and land will rise."
This comment follows Trump's promise at the Republican midterm election convention in Dallas. At the time, Trump said that if the Republican Party retained control of Congress in the November election, it would pay a "dividend" of $5000 to each adult citizen. The plan reportedly costs more than $1 trillion, but Trump has not detailed the funding source. Vice President J.D. Vance then hinted that tariff revenue might be enough to cover the spending and that higher-earners would be excluded.
Another driver of Bitcoin's latest rise
Pompigliano's remarks about stimulation are not his only recent view on Bitcoin's trend. Earlier this week, he pointed out that the main driver of Bitcoin's strong performance over the past month was not external incremental funds, but capital flows within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
He noted that investors did not buy Bitcoin by selling stock positions, but converted stablecoins already in the crypto space into BTC. In his view, the distinction is crucial: the outflow of funds from the stock market means a broader shift in risk appetite, while the conversion of stablecoins suggests that idle crypto capital is simply diverted to Bitcoin. He believes this is an early sign of further gains.
Pompigliano did not give a specific price target or time frame. Previously, Bitcoin had traded at close to $78,900.
Historical review: What happened last time?
As of now, the response of the cryptocurrency market to Trump's latest promise has been relatively flat, with Bitcoin prices remaining around $76,000 to $78,000. However, historical data provides a different perspective.
After the CARES Act issued a $1,200 check in April 2020, Bitcoin, which was trading at about $6,900 at the time, climbed to about $29,000 by the end of the year. After the second round of $600 payments in December 2020, Bitcoin rose again and approached the $40,000 mark in early January 2021. From March 2020 to March 2021, thanks to the weakening of the US dollar, Bitcoin rose by approximately 788%, and Ethereum soared by more than 1,264%.
However, this effect gradually subsided over time. By the time of the third round of stimulus payments in March 2021, analysts found no significant increase in cryptocurrency purchases related to stimulus policies. This shows that Pompigliano's bullish views may not be implemented as smoothly as in the past.
