Bitwise shuts down spot Dogecoin ETF just 10 months after launch

Crypto asset management company Bitwise is shutting down its spot Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), about 10 months after the product was launched. The move aims to optimize its product portfolio to adapt to changing investor needs.

The fund BWOW is currently traded on the Arca Market on the New York Stock Exchange and is expected to continue trading until October 14, its last trading day. According to an official press release, investors can sell their shares through the secondary market before the close of the day, after which BWOW will cease operations. The remaining shareholders will receive their net asset value as of that date on October 21 and receive payment in cash on October 22. Bitwise said investors do not need to take any action in the process.

The company also coordinated the New York Stock Exchange to assist in the delisting and liquidation of funds.

As early as November 2025, Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley once said: "DOGE is just a 12-year-old token based on a picture of a cute dog, people's kindness, and the common concept that people should have free choice in cryptocurrencies. However, despite the difficulties it faces, it has maintained relevance and value for longer than almost all other assets in the crypto market."

Bitwise's decision comes at a time when the spot dogcoin ETF market is difficult to attract stable investor demand. The first DOGE ETF was launched in September 2025 and attracted widespread attention at that time. But then these products received limited interest.

Data from SoSoValue showed that net inflow of Dogecoin ETF last month was approximately US$318,000, reversing the small outflow recorded in July. However, September's performance was significantly weak, with more than $343,000 flowing out of the fund. The outflow of funds was greater than the inflow, with a historical net outflow of US$1.23 million.

New bullish signals

In the past month, this old memecoin has performed relatively smoothly. As the entire crypto market rebounded, it has risen nearly 20% in the past month. However, after hitting a recent high of $0.09, prices fell back to around $0.084.

Analyst Ali Martinez believes DOGE may be ready for another rally. He identified a buy signal from the TD Sequential indicator on the asset's 4-hour chart. Martinez said the signal has performed well recently. In the first three times this signal appeared, DOGE rebounded by 6.96%, 2.71% and 11.25% respectively.
