Bitcoin spot ETF had a net outflow of US$462.7 million last week, ending three weeks of inflows.

In the four trading days last week, the U.S. Bitcoin (BTC) spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) lost a total of US$462.7 million, ending the previous three consecutive weeks of net inflows; at the same time, Ethereum (ETH)-related funds achieved a net growth of nearly US$197 million.

Core Points

  • Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of $462.7 million between September 8 and September 11, the first weekly decline in the category in a month.
  • The ARK21 Shares Bitcoin ETF led the redemptions wave, with a scale of US$234.2 million; the Grayscale Trust followed closely with a redemption amount of US$129.1 million.
  • The Ethereum ETF attracted $196.9 million, of which BlackRock's Ethereum fund contributed $148.8 million in inflows on Friday alone.

Bitcoin ETF outflows intensify

According to data from Farside Investors, last week's trading day was shortened due to the Labor Day holiday, but funds were withdrawn throughout every trading day from Tuesday to Friday. Pressure peaked on Thursday, with a net outflow of $282.7 million that day, the largest one-day outflow since July. SoSoValuedata data showed that although outflows slowed to $13.2 million on Friday, the negative trend continued for four trading days.

In terms of specific fund performance, the ARK21 Shares Bitcoin ETF topped the week with $234.2 million in redemptions, followed by the Gray Bitcoin Trust, which redeemed $129.1 million in the same period. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust lost $52.5 million, while Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund lost $50.7 million. In contrast, Morgan Stanley's funds performed relatively solidly, absorbing approximately $19.6 million in funding.

Despite outflow pressure, the overall size of the category has not been fundamentally shaken. Currently, the total net assets controlled by the spot Bitcoin ETF are approximately US$97.58 billion, accounting for approximately 6.28% of Bitcoin's market value. Since the funds were launched in January 2024, cumulative net inflows have fallen slightly to US$55.15 billion, down from US$55.62 billion at last week's close.

BlackRock Funds Push Ethereum ETF Up

In the same four trading days, the flow of funds from Ethereum products showed the opposite trend, although this turning point only occurred on the last trading day. At first, the flow of funds fluctuated widely: $24.3 million flowed out on Tuesday,$34.7 million flowed in on Wednesday, and another $29.9 million flowed out on Thursday. It was not until Friday that the category absorbed a significant amount of $216.4 million.

Of this Friday inflow, BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust contributed $148.8 million, while the 21Shares Core Ethereum ETF increased $29.1 million on the same day. In addition, Solana (SOL) and XRP (XRP) related funds also remained positive, attracting $10.3 million and $18.98 million respectively. So far, Ethereum ETF has achieved net inflows for four consecutive weeks.

Analyst Ted Pillows warns of Bitcoin's prospects

Analyst Ted Pillows pointed out that Bitcoin's weekly K-line pattern is not performing well, and if this week's close price approaches a low, sellers will regain control of the situation. The current situation is even more severe because the Federal Reserve will decide on interest rate policy on September 16, and the futures market has set the probability of a 25 basis point rate hike at 87%.

This reversal interrupted the category's previously exceptionally strong performance. In August, the Bitcoin ETF recorded a net inflow of US$3.52 billion, making it the best monthly performance in 2026 (Note: Original data may be based on specific forecasts or contexts), after only US$172 million was generated in July, and Bitcoin rebounded by about 25% in these four weeks. Even after last week's losses, the spot Bitcoin ETF still had positive returns overall in September, with a net inflow of approximately $307.3 million as of Friday.
