The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF suffered an outflow of funds on Monday, and the BTC price fell below US$86,000.
On Monday, the U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) showed a correction, recording a net outflow of US$89.9 million. At the time, the Bitcoin price was below $86,000. This reversal ended two consecutive days of net inflows and also reflected the overall cooling of market heat after the October anniversary cycle.
SoValue data shows that in the previous two trading days, the total inflow of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs was approximately US$293 million, and the overall trading volume reached US$2.18 billion. However, this momentum gradually dissipated on Monday as underlying asset prices fell.
Core Points
- Bitcoin ETF Capital Flow: The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of US$89.9 million on Monday, reversing the inflow trend of the previous two days.
- Price Trend: On the day of the outflow of funds, the price of Bitcoin fell below US$86,000. As of press time, the price of BTC was approximately US$85,559.
- Ethereum ETF Performance: Ethereum Spot ETF recorded a net outflow of approximately US$51 million, with a loss streak extending into five trading days.
- Altcoin ETF divergence: Solana and Zcash experienced net outflows, while XRP had no net capital flow on Monday.
- Cumulative inflow data: According to SoValue, cumulative net inflows of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs fell 5.8% from approximately US$61.3 billion to US$57.7 billion.
Bitcoin ETF outflows follow the fall in BTC prices
Monday's outflows highlight the rapid shifts in ETF flows that can occur when spot prices are weak. The reversal comes on the eve of the first anniversary of Bitcoin's all-time high of $126,080 on October 6, 2025, a benchmark that still has a profound impact on investor positioning.
According to CoinGecko data, Bitcoin was trading at around $85,559 at press time, down about 32% from its all-time high. Since then, SoValue reports that cumulative net inflows into U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs have shrunk by 5.8 percent, from about $61.3 billion to $57.7 billion on Monday.
The key revelation for market observers is that ETF demand does not grow steadily and linearly. After an early strong performance, the latest data suggests that investors are reassessing risks when BTC loses support from recent momentum.
Ethereum ETF outflow streak continues
The U.S. spot Ethereum ETF also performed poorly on Monday, recording a net outflow of approximately US$51 million. This extended its consecutive losing trading days to five days.
Based on the same ETF flow data report, the funds lost a total of $206 million in the five days. Although cumulative net inflows remain positive at approximately $13.8 billion, the continued sequence of outflows suggests that buyers have temporarily slowed down as Ethereum weakens relative to previous levels.
Traders often view multi-day withdrawals of ETF funds as more than just a single sentiment swing. Even if there is no fundamental change in long-term position positioning, consecutive outflow days will put pressure on short-term price actions by reducing incremental demand from traditional investment channels.
Altcoin ETFs performed mixed: Solana and Zcash fell, XRP was flat
Except for Bitcoin and Ethereum, the performance of U.S. altcoin ETFs was mixed on Monday.
- Solana (SOL) and Zcash (ZEC): Related funds recorded net outflows of US$9.3 million and US$3.6 million respectively.
- XRP: XRP ETF performed relatively smoothly. There was no net flow of funds Monday after a $3.3 million outflow was recorded on Friday. This lack of net change-following the previous day's outflows-suggests that investors are either waiting for confirmation signals or have neither increased nor decreased exposure during that particular trading session.
Although these amounts appear small compared to the total number of Bitcoin ETFs, they still have implications for relative sentiment across the complex system of spot ETFs. Mixed capital flow patterns often reflect a more selective rather than a comprehensive "risk averse" market.
What should investors focus on next
