ETH Prysm Emergency Update: Pre-set the 200 million Gas limit for the upgrade of Sepolia test network Glamsterdam.
Prysm, one of Ethereum's most widely used consensus clients, released a last-minute patch on October 5. The patch is designed to ensure that verifiers can automatically propose blocks with a limit of 200 million (200 million) Gas when the Glamstam upgrade for the Sepolia testnet is activated.
The released version of Prysm v7.2.1 introduces Sepolia's Gas restricted scheduling mechanism. This means operators will be ready without any manual configuration before the hard fork scheduled to take place at 13:53 UTC on October 6. This update fills the gap left by the previous version.
The previously released version of Prysm v7.2.0 on September 28 has a fork time, but it does not include changes to Gas restrictions. If the verifier runs this version, it will continue to produce blocks according to Sepolia's old default of 60 million Gas, diluting the effectiveness of the capacity test. The v7.2.1 version automatically sets the Gas limit for verifiers to 200 million by default.
Why the 200 million Gas limit matters
Gas measures the amount of computing work that can be accommodated in a single Ethereum block. Increasing Sepolia's Gas limit from approximately 60 million to 200 million means that the active capacity per block has more than tripled. This includes more transactions, stablecoin transfers, and complex application deployments until users start competing for block space and cause fees to rise.

Sepolia 测试的预期成果
Sepolia 是 Ethereum 开发人员在任何变更上线主网之前，使用无实际价值的测试代币进行演练的场所。之前的 Platåberget 测试已让开发人员初步了解了此次升级，而本轮测试将展示验证者是否能够持续处理比 Sepolia 旧默认值大三倍以上的区块。
Glamsterdam 升级尚未安排在主网上线。开发人员将根据测试结果，决定主网应采纳多大的容量提升幅度。
后续步骤
Sepolia 分叉将于 UTC 时间 10 月 6 日 13:53 激活，运行 v7.2.1 版本的验证者将在无需任何手动更改的情况下，开始提议 2 亿 Gas 的区块。
除了 Gas 限制调度外，此次补丁还默认开启了部分数据列（partial data columns），并重写了验证者客户端中构建器（builders）的配置方式。目前，Ethereum 主网尚未安排此次升级，Sepolia 的测试结果将塑造开发人员最终推出的容量提升规模。这一过程也将贯穿基金会更长期的 Layer 1 路线图规划。
