The truth about the liquidity of Dogecoin: In-depth data reveals the risks behind large transactions
Dogecoin's well-known name does not fully reflect its true situation when large transactions are executed. CoinGecko's 2026 Cryptocurrency Asset Liquidity Report provides an in-depth analysis of the order structure behind the display prices, and its research results reveal differences that cannot be explained by price and market value alone.
This comparison covers the performance of Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Dogcoin on eight exchanges. Compared with 2025, Bitcoin's liquidity has improved, but the order books of several major altcoins have become thinner. When these results are reviewed in order, the status of Dogecoin becomes particularly clear.
How market depth explains the impact of large transactions on prices
Liquidity refers to the difficulty of buying and selling a token without causing significant price fluctuations. A "deep" order book has enough available orders to absorb large transactions at close to the displayed prices. On the contrary,"shallow" order books tend to run out of nearby pending orders, and the remaining trading portion can only be traded at more unfavorable prices, resulting in slippage.
When reading CoinGecko's research findings, it is crucial to distinguish between the following concepts:
- Trading Volume : A measure of the number of transactions completed.
- Order book depth : Measures the amount of pending orders available for potential execution.
- Slip point : The difference between the expected transaction price and the actual transaction price.
CoinGecko collected daily snapshot data from July 6 to September 3, 2026. These results describe the liquidity situation for that particular period of time rather than the current real-time order situation.
Bitcoin liquidity improves, Binance maintains its leading position
Among the eight exchanges, Bitcoin has approximately US$29 million in orders and approximately US$37 million in sell orders within the US$100 range of market prices. This figure is nearly 50% higher than the 2025 survey results.
Among them, Binance contributed approximately US$7.3 million in buy orders and US$8.3 million in sell orders, accounting for approximately a quarter of the measured Bitcoin liquidity.
Assuming a bitcoin price of US$70,000, the measurement range covers from a buy order of US$69,900 to a sell order of US$70,100. The actual impact is quite direct:
- Compared to 2025, Bitcoin has a greater depth of availability near the market.
- Binance provides most of the measurable liquidity.
- A larger selling order does not guarantee a decline in Bitcoin prices. These orders are pending orders that can be executed, rather than completed transactions or proof that new funds have entered BTC.
Ethereum's liquidity weakens relative to Bitcoin
Ethereum's liquidity near the market is approximately 35% to 45% of the Bitcoin depth, compared with 60% or higher in previous studies. This means that every $100 of Bitcoin liquidity corresponds to only $35 to $45 for Ethereum, up from at least $60 before.
This does not mean that Ethereum's liquidity has dropped by 55% to 65%, as the increase in Bitcoin depth has also affected this ratio. Ethereum trading of the same size may face a higher slip point, depending on the exchange and available orders. Although Binance leads near the market, Bitget is more competitive when considering orders from longer distances.
The depth of XRP remained stable despite overall weakness in altcoins
The overall depth of XRP remained roughly unchanged, making it an exception to the broader altcoin weakness. The measurement range includes approximately $18 million in purchase orders and $14 million in sell orders.
This imbalance means that at the prices listed, more money is spent on buying XRP than it is worth selling XRP. However, these purchases do not represent an upcoming increase in XRP prices. Buyers can cancel orders and additional selling pressure may arise before the order is executed.
At the level closest to the market, Binance leads; at a slightly further distance from the market price, Coinbase becomes the liquidity leader. Although XRP has a larger market value than Solana, its depth is still not as deep as Solana in the ±2% range.
Solana liquidity declines, exchange rankings change with range
The depth on both sides of Solana's order book has dropped from approximately US$28 million to US$20 million. This represented a decrease of approximately $8 million on each side, a decrease of approximately 28.6%. As a result, SOL's ability to absorb large transactions within its measurement range is weaker than it will be in 2025.
MEXC在市场附近立即领先,但Coinbase在更宽的范围内表现更强。一家交易所可能在最近的订单最多,但在远处的总池子并非最大。

狗狗币市场深度为大额交易留下的空间有限
Among the eight exchanges, Dogecoin's liquidity per side within the ±2% range is approximately US$9 million to US$12 million. This is the lowest liquidity among the assets studied. "Each side" refers to a buy or a sell order, not the sum of the two. MEXC is highly liquid in dogcoins near the market and in some broader areas, but several other exchanges have thin order books.
The market depth of dogcoin brings several practical implications:
- On thinly liquid exchanges, large dogcoin transactions may face more slippage.
- Smaller transactions can still be executed smoothly within available depths.
- The price and popularity of dogcoin cannot determine the quality of execution.
FAQs
Does dogcoin have a future?
Yes, Dogecoin still has a future as a community-driven digital currency and niche payments, although its long-term value remains hotly debated among financial experts.
Is it worth investing US$100 in Ethereum?
If you view a $100 investment as a low-risk learning tool rather than a way to get rich quickly, buying Ethereum is worth it.
