Wallets allegedly belonging to the U.S. government attract market attention
Recently, a series of operations on Tuesday by several cryptocurrency wallets allegedly belonging to the U.S. government triggered a strong shock in the market. According to data from blockchain analytics platform Arkham, government-controlled addresses transferred more than $100 million in digital assets to different wallets.
Has the U.S. government sold Bitcoin?
On-chain data shows that the first large transfer involved 833,599 bitcoins (approximately US$71.6 million based on the value at the time of transfer), which were sent to two unmarked addresses. Hours later, those addresses transferred funds directly to Coinbase Prime's deposit addresses.
What cryptographic assets were transferred from the government wallet?
The assets transferred are not limited to major cryptocurrency units. Another wallet with a government label transferred 40,285 BNBs worth $31.63 million to an unspecified address, which was later transferred from that address to another wallet.
The origin of these transferred assets is as follows:
- 568.7 bitcoins: From funds confiscated in the Potapenko and Turogin cases.
- 264.9 bitcoins: From assets seized in historical Bitfinex hacking investigations.
- 40,285 BNB: Assets confiscated during the Alameda Research investigation.
These market analysis data clearly reveal the wallet structure of confiscated assets and its historical background.

Is the U.S. government selling Bitcoin?
Although high transfers have raised concerns among investors about selling pressure, experts emphasize that this does not mean actual sales. These assets, confiscated within the framework of legal proceedings, do not represent direct purchases using new taxpayer funds. The total value of such funds currently collected through law enforcement operations has reached US$27.5 billion.
Market commentator Jose Rosell pointed out in a statement that transfers are not equivalent to sales. Citing a presidential executive order in March 2025, he said that cryptocurrency assets transferred to the country are planned to be managed under the "strategic bitcoin reserve."
How do these transfers affect Bitcoin prices and market sentiment?
Large-scale wallet activity may cause fluctuations in cryptocurrency exchange order books and futures markets in the short term. However, it is crucial to correctly understand the difference between institutional custody steps and exchange sales.
Investors should avoid panic selling, and it is particularly important to calmly analyze chain data.
