What is the Optimism Network? How to interact? How to add Optimism to MetaMask?

Optimism is an \"accelerator network\" built specifically for Ethereum. Simply put, it allows you to conduct online operations with cheaper fees and faster speeds. Many popular DeFi and NFT projects have been connected to Optimism to make the user experience smoother. This article will tell you in a simple and easy-to-understand way: what Optimism is, what it does, how to connect and participate, so that you can easily get started on this increasingly popular second-layer network.

What is the Optimism Network?

Optimism uses advanced data compression technology to put Ethereum transactions on another blockchain, accelerating transactions and reducing costs. What makes Optimism\'s scaling method special is its name: It uses optimistic aggregation technology to \"aggregate\" multiple transactions into one transaction, settle on another blockchain, and feed the results back to the Ethereum main chain.

Optimism was launched in June 2019, and testnet was launched in October 2019. The Alpha Mainnet will not be launched until January 2021 and will not be integrated with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) until October 2021. The open main network will be launched in December 2021.

How does the Optimism network interact?

1. Set up the network, open the cross-chain website, and open the official bridge of op. Because it is recharge, you need to use the Ethernet main network

2. Link to Fox Wallet and enter the amount of ether you want to recharge, and then click deposit

3. You need to wait three to five minutes before the recharge can be completed. The GSA fee is about US$40, and you can wait for about 3 to 5 minutes.

4. This is a success.

5. After recharging, you can experience the ecosystem on optimism. Currently, the dapps deployed on the op include uniswap, synthetic, and 1inch. and lyra(this is a second-tier option project that currently only supports options on Ethereum. It is AMM liquidity, not the form of orderbook like opyn)

How to add Optimism to MetaMask?

Desktop browser extension:

-Click the network selection button to display a list of networks you are connected to

-Click \"Add Network\"

-A new browser tab will open, showing the fields to be filled in

Network name: Optimism

Token symbol: ETH

RPC address: mainnet.optimism.io

Chain ID: 10

Block browser: Optimism Ethereum Explorer

-fill in and click to save

Mobile:

-Click on the burger menu icon in the upper left corner

-Select \"Settings\"

-Select \"Network\"

-Click \"Add Network\"

Fill in the following information:

Network name: Optimism

Token symbol: ETH

RPC address: mainnet.optimism.io

Chain ID: 10

Block Explorer: Optimistic Ethereum Explorer

-Click to Save to add a network

What is so special about Optimism?

Optimism is one of many solutions to Ethereum\'s state inflation problem. Until the main chain is upgraded, expansion solutions like Optimism allow Ethereum\'s decentralized financial industry to continue to grow, serving users who cannot afford high transaction fees.

Like Arbitrum, Optimism does not have native cryptocurrency to pay for gas bills, and uses ETH as its gas bill. Similar to Arbitrum, Optimism is currently in beta and has not been fully decentralized.

Hopefully you now understand what Optimism Network is and how to add it to MetaMask. Note that when MetaMask uses Optimism, it is not possible to manually adjust gas costs through advanced gas settings like other networks, and this feature is disabled. This is because users cannot specify gas limits when submitting transactions to Ethereum in Optimism.
