CleanSpark's September bitcoin position changes and key data on strategic transformation
CleanSpark issued a statement on Friday saying that it mined 529 bitcoins and sold 702 bitcoins in September, resulting in a decrease in its bitcoin holdings from 13,703 at the end of August to 13,530.
Of the 702 bitcoins sold, 700 were delivered through exercise of call options, and two were sold in spot form. The average price for all transactions is $72,928, which includes net option gains.
In addition, CleanSpark announced that it will change to reporting financial and operating conditions on a quarterly basis and will stop publishing monthly operating updates. This shift marks a shift in the company's capital focus towards the data center business. According to the company, its subsidiary has closed a $2.276 billion senior secured note financing to support a lease-related expansion project. The project is expected to generate approximately US$6.6 billion in contract revenue during its initial lease term.
Asset Structure and Financing Progress
As of the end of September, of the 13,530 bitcoins held by CleanSpark, 3,475 were held as collateral or accounts receivable, all related to derivative transactions.
CleanSpark CEO Matt Schultz said: "With non-dilutive bond financing in place, our Sandersville project has passed full funding for the completion phase."
Industry trends in the transformation to artificial intelligence data centers
Recent developments from CleanSpark show that although the company continues to produce Bitcoin, its strategy is increasingly relying on existing positions and power assets. In September, its average daily mining output was 17.64 bitcoins; since 2026, the cumulative output has reached 5,432 bitcoins, and the current operating computing power is 50 ehash per second (EH/s).
CleanSpark has also sold Bitcoin before. In February this year, due to investment considerations in artificial intelligence infrastructure, the company sold 553 bitcoins.
Other mining companies have also experienced a decline in reserves. MARA Holdings sold 15,133 bitcoins and cashed out approximately $1.1 billion to reduce convertible debt. Online tracking platform Lookonchain noted on Friday that MARA appears to have sold 996 more bitcoins worth approximately $81 million.
According to CoinMarketCap data, as of press time, the price of Bitcoin was approximately US$82,660, up approximately 2.2% in the past 24 hours.
