Cardano Ecosystem launches ODATANO tool to break down barriers to integration between SAP and blockchain
Developers in the Cardano ecosystem recently launched a new tool called ODATANO. The tool is designed to facilitate integration between SAP and the Cardano blockchain, one of the world's leading enterprise software ecosystems.
The core position of the SAP platform
SAP is a well-known provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and business software platforms. It helps companies efficiently manage core business processes such as finance, accounting, supply chain, human resources, production, and customer management through a single enterprise software infrastructure. At present, many large enterprises around the world use SAP systems as their operational support.
Streamlining the integration process: From complex technologies to standard APIs
In an interview published on the Cardano Developer Portal, ODATANO founder Maximilian elaborated on the project's core philosophy. He pointed out that by abstracting Cardano's blockchain infrastructure behind the standard OData V4 API, ODATANO enables enterprise-level developers familiar with the SAP development environment to easily achieve integration with Cardano without having to have a deep understanding of blockchain technical details.
Maximilian said that if traditional SAP developers want to directly connect with Cardano, they usually need to learn a large number of complex blockchain concepts, such as UTxO model, transaction creation, CBOR serialization, transaction fee calculation, mortgage mechanism, and key management. ODATANO encapsulates these complex processes in a service layer, allowing Cardano to connect to SAP applications like a standard OData service.
Functional Characteristics and Application Scenarios
Currently, ODATANO provides 31 different entities and functions, covering modules such as data reading, transaction creation and signature. Users can query blocks, addresses, UTxO, entities and protocol parameters through the system; it also supports the creation, signature and sending of transactions to the Cardano network. In addition, ODATANO can be run as a SAP CAP plug-in or installed and deployed as a stand-alone service.
Based on the ODATANO infrastructure, multiple reference applications such as TRACE, QUANTIX, FINCA and x402 have been developed. Among them, QUANTIX is a B2B raw material procurement and payment application that uses oracle data. This project won an award in the 2026 Charli3 Oracle hackathon competition.
According to the Cardano Developer Portal, the ODATANO project is currently funded by the Cardano Catalyst Fund 14.
