LG Electronics shares rose more than 6% in Seoul after Nvidia certified its 2.6-megawatt coolant distribution unit (CDU) for use in DSX AI plant infrastructure. The cooling system has been added to the NVIDIA DSX AI factory market and complies with DSX reference design standards. This marks the third Nvidia CDU that LG has been certified, after its 600-kilowatt and 1-megawatt cooling systems have been approved. Nvidia classifies this 2.6MW CDU as a "large-scale" cooling solution designed to manage the heat generated by high-density AI server configurations. This announcement follows LG's release the day before of a new air-cooled centrifugal chiller for AI data center applications.
Chip-to-chiller strategy
LG is developing what it calls a "chip-to-chiller" product line, covering the complete cooling path from AI processors to thermal management throughout the facility. The product portfolio includes chillers, computer room air handlers and liquid cooling technology. According to the company, the rack power density of AI data facilities is currently climbing into the hundreds of kilowatts range. Such extreme heat loads exceed the capabilities of traditional rack-level cooling methods, creating the need for megawatt centralized cooling platforms.
LG received Nvidia certification for its 600kW CDU in July. Nvidia said at the time that the product had successfully completed more than 100 technical evaluation benchmarks, evaluating cooling efficiency, reliability standards and failover capabilities. The 2.6MW cooling system met additional specification requirements and obtained "DSX Ready" qualification. This makes it the highest-capacity certified cooling product in LG's current product portfolio.
Expand product portfolio
The timing of this certification announcement is strategic. LG announced a new air-cooled centrifugal chiller specifically designed for AI data centers on Monday, just 24 hours before disclosing Nvidia's qualifications. LG said the new certification strengthens its position as a "pioneer in the next generation liquid cooling market." Manufacturers said they plan to continue to provide solutions to meet expanding AI infrastructure needs.
Nvidia's DSX AI factory platform establishes a reference specification for AI data center infrastructure. Access to the market directory allows LG to reach out to data center operators deploying Nvidia-driven AI systems. The approval expands LG's presence in AI infrastructure as demand for high-capacity cooling solutions accelerates, a growth driven by increasingly power-hungry AI accelerators. According to Dow Jones Market data, LG's share price rose as high as 7.2% in early afternoon local time in Seoul.
