In the past three months, the network's active subscribers have increased to 1.8 million, up from 1.1 million a year ago. Data usage more than doubled to 34.3 petabytes (petabytes), and the number of voice call minutes also increased by 84% to 573 million minutes.

In terms of market strategy, the company launched a free on-site call service and increased the maximum phone borrowing limit from US$0.61 (10 rand) to US$6.11 (100 rand). The move prompted subscribers to use a $6 million (approximately R96.8 million) Cape Connect prepayment line, up from the previous $2.2 million (approximately R36.1 million).

Group said in its financial report: "Cape Connect continues to grow at scale as more customers use this product to obtain affordable daily connectivity. The increase in the number of active customers and increased data and service usage have combined to drive this growth."

Diversification Strategy and Digital Transformation Effectiveness

Cape Bank extends business diversification into mobile services and actively explores financial technology, aiming to expand the scale of operations and enhance profitability. Currently, this business cutting-edge expansion strategy is attracting the attention of a number of leading African banks, including Standard Bank, Access Bank and GTBank.

At the same time, the overall performance of Cape Group is also remarkable. In six months, the group's core income increased by 19% to US$580.6 million (approximately R9.5 billion). Although operating costs jumped 5% to US$640.5 million (approximately R10.5 billion), the cost-to-income ratio fell from 40% to 36%. In addition to salaries, technology spending increased 8% to US$103.7 million (approximately R1.7 billion), driven mainly by a 27% surge in cloud expenses and a 20% increase in investment in outsourced technology resources.

In addition, core income from commercial banking increased 52% to US$37.1 million (approximately R609 million), although the credit loss ratio climbed from 2.1% to 3.4%.

In the digital payments space, the number of users using Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Garmin Pay surged 68% to 2.4 million, driving related consumption to increase 87% to US$3.18 billion (approximately R52.1 billion). Cape Bank's application users also increased from 13.9 million to 16.5 million. Capitec Pay, the group's corporate payment platform, processed 182 million payments for approximately 12.5 million customers, totaling US$2.75 billion (R45 billion), and its net income surged 51% to US$22.3 million (R365 million).
