XRP has regained the top spot in trading volume on South Korea's cryptocurrency exchanges, and institutional interest and on-chain activity are heating up simultaneously.
The latest data shows that XRP has regained the number one position in trading volume among South Korea's major cryptocurrency exchanges. Within a few days after the successful conclusion of the XRP Seoul 2026 conference in Seoul, the transaction volume of the token once surpassed Bitcoin.
On October 5, the 24-hour trading volume of XRP/KRW trading pairs on the Upbit exchange reached US$72.3 million, exceeding the US$66.4 million trading volume of Bitcoin on the same exchange. This phenomenon continues the normal pattern of the Korean market: South Korea has long been one of the most active speculative markets for XRP. During periods of rising attention, South Korean traders tend to push XRP to the top of trading volume, often before market volatility expands.
XRP Seoul 2026 Conference and institutional interest surges
This surge in transaction volume coincides with the launch of XRP Asia at the Grand Hyatt Hotel during Korea Blockchain Week. The event attracted the participation of some of South Korea's most influential financial institutions.
On October 3, Ripple President Monica Long and RippleX Senior Vice President Markus Infanger attended the XRP Seoul 2026 conference. Woori Bank dispatched senior manager Seunghoon Han, Kakao Bank dispatched manager Leo Lee to attend, and Kyobo Securities and Kbank also joined the lineup.
Kakao Bank, which has 27 million users, has approved plans to implement its blockchain infrastructure by 2027 and is evaluating the integration of XRP Ledger for custody services and real-world asset tokenization. In addition, South Korea's tokenized government bond pilot project also marks an acceleration in crypto infrastructure and adoption.
At the XRP Seoul 2026 conference, Ripple demonstrated its partnerships with four South Korean financial institutions: Kbank, Kyobo Securities, Woori Bank and Jeonbuk Bank. These collaborations cover the use of Ripple Payments for cross-border payments and custody solutions, but Ripple did not confirm the specific settlement assets involved.
XRPL chain activity is active, analysts issue caution
In addition to trading volume, chain activity on XRP Ledger (XRPL) is also growing. AI infrastructure startup t54.ai reports that XRPL robot transactions have exceeded 12 million, indicating that the network's application has expanded from simple retail transactions to more extensive programmatic uses.
However, analysts warned that the combination of institutional interest, conference momentum and on-chain indicators does not necessarily translate into continued demand for tokens. High trading volumes may reflect either true adoption or speculative positions. High trading volume does not guarantee a price rise; it can also signal an aggressive sell-off or late position building near resistance.
At present, South Korea is still one of the important market indicators for observing the next trend of XRP.
