Metallicus claims that Dogecoin VM transaction speeds have increased by 300 times, while retaining Dogecoin Core and supporting existing wallets.
Metallicus claims that its Dogecoin VM has increased transaction processing speeds by 300 times while maintaining the original features of Dogecoin Core and supporting existing wallets, addresses and private keys. However, the current Alpha testing phase limits a single deposit limit to 100 DOGE, and developers have released the source code without completing an independent audit.
Metallicus's target customers include banks, credit unions and fintech platforms, aiming to attract these institutional users through faster settlement speeds, and sees X platform payment services as a potential future application scenario.
Parallel network built on Metal Blockchain
Dogecoin holders can now test this payment layer, which is said to enable a transaction experience 300 times faster than traditional networks, but the deposit limit is set at 100 DOGE. Marshall Hayner, CEO of Metallicus, said that DogecoinVM runs on the main network of Metal Blockchain and has neither changed the core code of Dogecoin Core nor introduced another new cryptocurrency.
Hayner, who is also a member of the Dogecoin Foundation's board of directors, linked the development to Elon Musk's previous call for accelerated Dogecoin payments. As early as 2021, Musk urged developers to improve the cryptocurrency's transaction processing capabilities so that it can support payment applications on a global scale.
To achieve this goal, Metallicus chose to advance through parallel networks rather than modifying the Dogecoin underlying protocol or existing wallet systems. Engineers built the Dogecoin VM based on Metal Blockchain infrastructure, allowing this payment layer to operate in parallel with the original Dogecoin network.
Compatibility and technical advantages
According to Hayner, the architecture retains Dogecoin's original transaction model and supports existing wallets, private keys, and standard D-format addresses. According to the company's description, users can continue to use existing wallet credentials without changing their credentials when accessing the system, ensuring good compatibility.
Metallicus attributed the speed increase to the "Snowman" consensus mechanism. This mechanism drives a new payment layer that replaces Dogecoin's traditional mining-based settlement process. Company data shows that transaction confirmation times range from 0.15 to 0.25 seconds, which supports Hayner's claim that this layer can significantly accelerate Dogecoin payments.
It should be noted that the above data only reflects activity within the Dogecoin VM, while the original Dogecoin network still retains its original protocol and proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism.
Initial deployment restrictions and security conditions
Deposit restrictions and unaudited code define the initial roll-out strategy for DogecoinVM
DogecoinVM uses a bridging mechanism: when funds enter the new tier, the original DOGE is locked on the original network, and an equal balance is subsequently issued in the new tier. Metallicus said this balance is endorsed on a 1:1 ratio, and users can withdraw their DOGE through a bridging mechanism.
Although the company claims to support instant withdrawals, since the release is still in the early testing stage, it has imposed strict limits on user deposit amounts. Personal deposits must not exceed 100 DOGE, and the team recommends that participants maintain a small balance during the Alpha test period.
Currently, developers have made the source code public on GitHub, but the system has not yet undergone an independent security audit. At the same time, Metallicus is working to meet SOC2 security standards as part of its program to serve institutional users who process financial transactions.
Future Outlook and Application Scenarios
Hayner pointed out that in addition to the initial test audience, banks, credit unions, financial technology companies and related platforms are potential users of the payment infrastructure. In addition, the company has highlighted that payment services on the X platform may be a potential application direction for faster Dogecoin settlement through this layer.
This vision conforms to Musk's scalability proposal, but the official announcement only describes it as a development goal rather than a confirmed integration solution with the X platform.
Metallicus has launched the project through open mainnet testing, and despite transaction restrictions, its main selling points are still faster settlement speeds and compatibility with existing wallets. As the payments layer passes through the initial testing phase, broader institutional application remains an established plan in the company's statement.
