Hedera processes more than 807,000 transactions in a single day, with a real-time throughput of 9.35 transactions per second
Hedera recorded 807,383 transactions on October 8, pushing its real-time throughput to an average of 9.35 transactions per second (TPS). On-chain data shows that this is the network's highest trading rate in the past seven days, achieving a strong recovery of 152% compared to the lowest point of 3.7 TPS recorded on October 3.
The daily trading volume was higher than the average of approximately 708,500 transactions per day in the first quarter of 2026, and the quarterly data itself marked a month-on-month increase of 25.8%. The latest data shows that online activity has continued to accumulate and entered the fourth quarter.
Performance comparison: How does Hedera perform?
Hedera uses a Hashgraph consensus mechanism instead of traditional blockchain. Its directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure means that throughput is limited primarily by available bandwidth rather than the architecture itself, giving it significant design advantages in networks where fundamental ceilings are imposed by block structures.
The current speed limit for cryptocurrency transactions on Hedera is 10,000 transactions per second (TPS), which is a governance limit rather than a technical ceiling. In actual production, the short-term peak value has reached 16,000 strokes per second. Against this backdrop, the real-time average of 9.35 per second reflects daily natural needs rather than stress testing, and the week-on-week recovery points to a rebound in regular Internet use.
Hedera's daily trading volume increased by 25.8% month-on-month in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 708,500 transactions per day. The 807,383 readings on October 8 easily exceeded this benchmark. Historically, Hedera's trading portfolio has been dominated by its Crypto Service, accounting for 68.4% of first-quarter activity, followed by Smart Contracts with 19.7% and Consensus with 8.6%.
Hedera's native token,$HBAR, is used to pay for every transaction processed across these services, which means that continued activity growth is directly related to token utility needs.
