Another noteworthy data comes from CoinGlass, which shows that liquidations in the past 24 hours amounted to US$931 million, the vast majority of which came from long positions. Specifically, Ethereum (ETH) involves US$345 million, Bitcoin (BTC) is US$266 million, and Solana (SOL) is US$65 million. In addition, a single ETH-USD position worth US$20 million on the Hyperliquid platform became the largest single liquidation case.

Investors using leveraged trading may be forced to close their positions due to insufficient margin if they encounter reverse price fluctuations. This kind of forced liquidation often aggravates market selling pressure during the decline.

Futures market data shows that the current rebound has not yet been strongly supported by new leveraged funds. According to Coinalyze data, open interest in bitcoin futures fell 1.9% in the past 24 hours to $27.1 billion. At the same time, the long-short position ratio rose to 1.85, with about 65% of tracking accounts holding bullish positions.

This means that despite the recent large-scale liquidation, bullish expectations have not completely disappeared. However, it is unclear whether investors are willing to support this expectation by creating new positions.

Why did STRK and KAIA rise strongly?

During the Bitcoin rally, some altcoins performed stronger. Starknet's STRK token has gained 33% in the last 24 hours. This trend stems from the project team revealing that it is evaluating the possibility of separating from Ethereum and transforming it into a standalone Layer-1 blockchain.

The Starknet team said the goal of potential changes is to achieve full quantum-resistant capabilities by 2027. However, the plan has not yet received final approval, so it cannot be asserted that the network will definitely break away from the Ethereum ecosystem.

Kaia (KAIA), stimulated by the listing news of Upbit, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has risen by about 40% since the opening of the day. Aptos rose 12%, while Cosmos and Polkadot also rose about 10%. According to Binance data, RLC, SKL and AMP rose 40%, 30% and 20% respectively.

Even so, the overall altcoin market has not yet fully recovered. The CoinDesk 80 index was up 2.2% from the opening, while the CoinDesk 100 index still posted a 2.2% decline in the past 24 hours. The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector fell an average of about 4% during this period. The positive results of individual items have pushed up the prices of specific currencies, but the overall market selling pressure still exists.

Can Bitcoin's rebound last?

U.S. -listed exchange traded funds (ETFs) related to Bitcoin, Ethereum and Zcash recorded net outflows on Thursday. In contrast, XRP funds became the only crypto asset class to receive net inflows that day. This phenomenon shows that investors have not yet launched large-scale purchases through fund channels while the market is trying to stabilize.

When assessing the sustainability of the Bitcoin market, there are two key indicators worthy of focus: one is whether open interest in the futures market will grow again; the other is whether the flow of ETF funds can turn from negative to positive. Until these indicators show substantial improvement, it is too early to judge the beginning of a new bull trend based solely on the short-term rebound brought about by geopolitical statements.
