XRP Ledger has exceeded 13 million agency payments, accelerating towards the goal of 100 million.

According to the latest news from Chandler Fang, co-founder of t54ai and former product leader of Ripple, the volume of agency payment transactions on XRP Ledger (XRPL) has increased rapidly, with the total number exceeding 13 million. Fang pointed out in a recent social media post that this data shows that agent-based payment models are being adopted faster than expected in the XRPL ecosystem.

Surge in transaction volume and merchant adoption

Fang pointed out that the volume of agency payments surged from about 1 million in July to more than 13 million in early October. This significant growth highlights the strong momentum of the on-chain settlement business driven by merchant agents on XRPL.

RippleX is the core development department of Ripple, focusing on the expansion and technological advancement of XRP Ledger. XRP Ledger is a decentralized blockchain network designed to enable fast, low-cost transfer of value between different currencies.

J.A., Director of Engineering, RippleX Akinyele said that XRPL has currently processed 13,489,468 proxy transactions supported by 168 merchants participating in the x402 agreement. These transactions settled a total of 6,982.32 XRP and 12,009.98 RLUSD (RLUSD is a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar issued by Ripple).

Akinyele had previously predicted that agency transactions would exceed 10 million, but now this benchmark has been significantly exceeded. He currently believes that reaching the goal of 100 million proxy transactions will be a milestone "sooner than expected" for the XRPL network.

Small Dictionary of Terms: x402 merchants are service providers authorized on XRPL that use the x402 protocol to facilitate payments on the agent chain. The protocol enables autonomous agents to automatically trade with digital assets.

Practical applications and future prospects

Fang envisions that with the 13 million transaction milestone reached, the next phase of agent payments will bring more real-world merchants and services to blockchain. He expects this growth to be supported by autonomous agents that will use XRP and RLUSD to process payments and settle transactions directly on XRPL through the x402 protocol.

Currently, developers and agents are leveraging XRP Ledger's AI toolkit to pay for API fees, data access, and computing resources, which facilitates the creation of new on-chain products and services.

In just a few months, agent payments on XRP Ledger have grown from 1 million to more than 13 million, and hundreds of merchants have participated and used XRP and RLUSD for settlement.

Akinyele discussed these developments at the XRP Seoul 2026 conference held last week. In his keynote speech, he focused on the expanding role of the AI proxy economy and its potential to affect not only the payments space, but also the broader range of digital services running on XRPL.

Akinyele also said that agent payments currently account for approximately 25% of all activity on XRP Ledger, highlighting the growing importance of automated agents in the network.

Infrastructure upgrades to support growth

In response to surging demand, Ripple is actively developing infrastructure tailored specifically for agents. According to Akinyele, these features include verifiable digital identities, strict enforcement of rights and spending rules, and secure smart wallets. These enhancements are designed to promote safe and efficient settlement of XRP and RLUSD, with the confirmation process typically completed in 3 to 5 seconds.

As autonomous payments and artificial intelligence integration accelerate, XRPL appears to be in a position to capture more real-world use cases, especially with expanding network participation and expanding merchant integration through proxy solutions.
