DIFC Courts have implemented a new blockchain-based system for verifying the authenticity and integrity of court judgments and hearing records. This system operates on the Avalanche’s C-Chain network, using blockchain technology to store sensitive information, thereby enhancing the security of documents.

Instant verification: Ensures that documents are genuine and unaltered.

According to official statements from Avalanche and DIFC Courts, court rulings and hearing records are linked to unique and non-transferable digital identifiers. This system uses NFT technology to confirm whether documents were officially issued by the court and whether they have been altered in any way.

Although sensitive text and personal information is stored off the chain, each document’s unique cryptographic fingerprint and non-transferable digital identifier are recorded on the chain. The cryptographic fingerprint generated from the document’s digital file is associated with the digital identity information stored on the Avalanche public blockchain network C-Chain. Any subsequent modifications to the document will cause the verification process to fail.

Privacy protection: Sensitive data is not stored on the chain.

A key feature of this system is that the content of court documents and confidential case information is not stored on the blockchain. This prevents sensitive data from being shared publicly during the verification process. Omar Al Mheiri, Director of DIFC Courts, said that this application extends the reliability of court documents beyond geographical boundaries.

In addition, the new system is expected to accelerate the process of verifying documents. This will be particularly beneficial for individuals and businesses who need to present legal judgments to banks, government agencies, and other courts across different countries.

John Nahas, Chief Operating Officer at Ava Labs, said, “The most powerful blockchain applications are those that are almost imperceptible to users. The DIFC court is using Avalanche to ensure that critical documents can be verified across borders within seconds, while keeping confidential information stored off-chain. This is a great example of how trusted institutions can use infrastructure designed for specific purposes, without having to change the way people interact with the system.”
