XRP Ledger v3.2.0 Network Core Server Maintenance Update
XRP Ledger v3.2.0 is a maintenance update for network core server software that focuses on cleaning code, reducing memory footprint, and patching newer DeFi features rather than bringing any cool new features to ordinary users. The version went online on June 15, and the most significant change is one name: the reference server, known as Rippled since 2013, is now renamed XRPLD. The interesting part lies behind this rebranding-a batch of security fixes are quietly reinforcing the infrastructure on which XRPL\'s fast-growing stablecoins and lending activities rely.
What has changed?
The name change is the most conspicuous part. According to the XLS-0095 specification, the core server binaries were migrated from Rippled to XRPLD, and the default configuration file was changed from rippled.cfg to xrpld.cfg. This affects configuration paths, database directories, and server metadata, so validators and node operators must update their deployment scripts before migrating. For token holders, the change is superficial, but symbolic for the network: It strips Ripple\'s name from community-maintained software, strengthening the separation between the company and the open source ledger.
In addition to the name, v3.2.0 also eliminated a number of amendments that had been activated for more than two years and continued to split the code base into smaller modules. The release is also expected to reduce memory usage by 30% to 40%, although this figure comes from developer reviews and secondary reports rather than from published benchmarks. In addition, a configurable chunk size storage option has been added, and the default peer port has been migrated from 51235 to 2459.
Why security fixes are the real focus
This upgrade also brings a new amendment, fixCleanup3_2_0, which is its most influential. It includes a series of targeted bug fixes and new inspections covering newer building blocks of the ledger:
-Accuracy and rounding fixes for single asset vaults and loan agreements
-Verification of non-canonical multi-purpose token amounts
-Zero DomainID check for licensed domain names
-Fixed unchanged conditions that were incorrectly triggered when valid quotes were deleted
-Added AccountRootsDeletedClean unchanged conditions to ensure that deleted accounts do not leave traces
These are not functional features. They are the conduits that keep on-chain lending, vaults and tokenized assets running correctly under real money. The loan agreement also passed an independent security audit before this version was released, and Ripple has publicly supported the amendment, adding confidence to the changes. The work was built directly on v3.1.3-a cleanup in May that dealt with expired NFT quotes, treasury loopholes and loan bookkeeping issues.
What does it mean for ordinary users?
Looking directly at it, the impact is not significant. If you hold or send XRP, v3.2.0 won\'t bring any changes you can notice. Its value is indirect. The vaults, lending markets, and multipurpose tokens reinforced by these fixes are the same basic components that wallets and apps are beginning to be made available to ordinary users. As these integrations come, the rewards will be more reliable lending markets and tokenized asset-based products that are audited and patched, rather than staying on the rough edges.
Developer oriented changes also help. A new flag allows apps to access the XRPL protocol and server definitions without a live server connection, making it easier to build wallets, browsers, and APIs. XRPL also gained support for the x402 payment standard, allowing AI agents to pay for services using XRP or RLUSD.
Stability coin background
Timing is important because v3.2.0 is released at a time when the U.S. dollar layer of XRPL is expanding rapidly. The supply of stablecoins on the books has exceeded US$908 million, growing by more than 20% in the past month, approaching what analysts see as the next real test of the trend.
Ripple\'s RLUSD takes on almost all the work and accounts for about 94% of the ledger stablecoins. According to finance firm Evernorth, XRPL now hosts approximately 51.7% of total circulation of RLUSD, which exceeds the amount on Ethereum.
How is the upgrade going?
Adoption is climbing, but it is not yet complete. XRPL Operations this week set network adoption at 42%, and XRPL Explorer data showed that 84 trusted verifiers (55.63% of the total number of verifiers) were running xrpld v3.2.0. But running a new server is not the same thing as approving the amendment it carries: verifiers voted separately on fixCleanup3_2_0, and currently have about 40%, which is still far from having to maintain an absolute majority of 80% for two consecutive weeks to activate. Some validators have upgraded but have not yet voted for the amendment, reflecting a cautious priority pace rather than stagnant deployment.
This division is the current tension point. Server software is online and is spreading, but the bundled amendments have not yet been activated, and node operators that delay upgrades may face the risk of running incompatible software after voting.
