SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -Kresus launches Kresus inheritance service
Kresus has officially released a new subscription service called \"Kresus Inheritance.\" The service allows users who manage their own wallets to make inheritance plans for their cryptocurrency assets without sharing private keys or relying on traditional asset recovery methods.
This feature solves a long-standing autonomous custody problem: how to ensure that digital assets can be smoothly transferred to beneficiaries if the wallet holder dies or permanently incapacitates it. Autonomous custody gives users full control over their assets, but such wallets have historically had few built-in solutions for inheritance or inheritance planning.
Existing processing methods often require users to disclose sensitive information or rely on costly legal processes. Handwritten mnemonic words may be leaked, shared private keys may be abused, and traditional estate planning may not provide a practical digital asset management solution.
\"Too much digital wealth has been lost because follow-up arrangements have not been made,\" said Trevor Traina, founder and CEO of Kresus. \"Self-custody should not mean that if something happens to you, your assets disappear. Through the Kresus inheritance service, we provide users with a safe and affordable way to protect their inheritance of wealth and ensure that the assets they have accumulated can be passed on to the next generation.\"
The Kresus inheritance service is now integrated into Kresus Wallet with an annual fee of $99.99. Users can designate a beneficiary who will be eligible to access the wallet only after the predetermined period of inactivity has ended. During this period, the user has full control over the asset, and the private key is never shared during this inheritance process. Kresus does not custody customer assets, and unless the specified period of inactivity expires and the inheritance process is initiated, ownership of the assets remains with the wallet holder.
The launch of this service comes at a time when cryptocurrency holdings are expanding. Harris poll shows that approximately 55 million U.S. adults (21% of the total population) currently own cryptocurrencies. At the same time, research by the Cremation Institute found that 89% of crypto investors are worried about the disposal of digital assets after their death.
Kresus inheritance service is designed to fill this gap by embedding inheritance planning functions directly into the wallet experience. For example, users holding $50,000 worth of Bitcoin can designate a spouse or adult children as beneficiaries while ensuring that they have access to those assets only after a verified inheritance event occurs.
This new service expands Kresus\'s existing wallet and infrastructure product line. Currently, Kresus wallets, mini application experiences and enterprise-level products have provided services to millions of self-managed users. The launch of the service also reflects the company\'s broader strategy: to further extend the wallet\'s functionality beyond mere asset storage by introducing tools that support long-term digital wealth management.
