Former SWIFT executive has explicitly denied rumors of integration with XRP
A former senior SWIFT official has publicly refuted the latest rumors that the agency plans to support XRP. Tom Zschach served as chief innovation officer at SWIFT for six years until stepping down in April 2026. He posted on the X platform saying that the statement that SWIFT intended to support XRP was \"not true\" and that related integration rumors \"will not happen.\"
Previously, some XRP community accounts posted a series of unconfirmed posts claiming that SWIFT intends to support XRP rather than develop its own digital assets. These claims do not provide any evidence to support them.
Authoritative voice of long-time critics
Tsshah\'s denial carries weight, which stems from his professional background. He served as chief innovation officer at SWIFT for six years, responsible for the network\'s digital asset strategy. During this time, he has been publicly critical of Ripple and XRP.
He once compared Ripple\'s technology to the \"fax machine\" of the Internet age and questioned whether banks would be willing to outsource final settlement to XRP. He publicly asked: Can financial institutions trust \"a token that is neither a deposit, nor a regulated currency, let alone on their balance sheet?\"
He also believes that the survival of Ripple\'s lengthy litigation case with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission does not prove its true institutional resilience. His position has always been that the neutral, shared governance model SWIFT has built among thousands of member banks is the appropriate framework for the global financial system, not a network controlled by a private company.
Why did rumors spread
Earlier this week, some XRP influencer accounts claimed without providing any evidence that SWIFT intended to support mature public tokens such as XRP rather than develop its own proprietary tokens. The speculation attracted attention in part because of the existing relationship between Ripple and SWIFT.
SWIFT has included Ripple Treasury in its Certified Partner Program and supports the ISO 20022 standard. This fact was misinterpreted by some community members as SWIFT\'s broader endorsement of XRP as a settlement asset.
Tsshah believes that if tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins are scaled up, banks may see little reason to use external assets like XRP-because they can fully use instruments they issue and trust for settlement. This stance is at the core of the reason why the SWIFT and XRP integration narrative continues to encounter resistance in the traditional financial sector.
At present, Tsshah\'s direct and public denial leaves little room for ambiguity in the rumors. At least in its current form, this rumor seems unfounded.
