Ripple joins forces with Clearpool and Cicada to launch an institutional credit fund to provide loans in RLUSD stablecoins
According to a press release shared with CoinDesk, Ripple is working with lending platform Clearpool and credit management company Cicada Partners to provide loans denominated in RLUSD stablecoins to financial technology and payment companies on XRP Ledger, and has established a new institutional credit fund for this purpose.
Fund Operating Mechanism
The fund will provide working capital loans denominated in RLUSD-denominated, with Cicada responsible for finding borrowers, setting loan terms and monitoring credit risk. Clearpool is responsible for building the infrastructure used to create and manage loan pools, while Ripple, along with other institutions, provides capital as an investor. Neither the fund size nor Ripple's specific capital contribution were disclosed.
Cicada said it has underwritten more than US$860 million in credit and will serve as both the general partner and credit pool manager of the fund. Clearpool said it has facilitated more than $930 million in institutional loans since 2021. Ripple participates as a limited partner, enjoys the same terms as other investors, and has no liability for loss guarantees.
XRP Ledger upgrade has not yet been completed
As of now, all of the above functions have not been available on the XRP Ledger main network. Clearpool is developing online test integrations, while the two ledger functions that support the product-loan agreement XLS-66 and single asset vault XLS-65-are still undergoing the online revision voting process.
The loan agreement is responsible for directly processing loan issuance and repayment on the ledger, while the treasury system centrally manages the funds of multiple lenders, and the manager (here, Cicada) determines the direction of the funds.
Demand for RLUSD has driven
Borrowers to receive RLUSD and repay it in that currency, creating demand for Ripple's dollar-linked tokens while migrating lending activity to XRP Ledger. It should be pointed out that XRP itself does not lend assets, but is only used to pay transaction fees and the minimum balance required by the ledger account.
The fund further deepens Ripple's layout to expand RLUSD. RLUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Ripple. Its market value has exceeded US$1 billion in less than a year since its launch. The move aims to turn it into a practical token for institutional finance rather than a retail payment tool.
As the plan was announced, XRP had risen nearly 20% to US$1.30 in the past 24 hours, a seven-day gain of 30% as part of a broad trend that has driven all major tokens higher.
