The Base network is suspected to have suffered a security breach and approximately US$6 million in cryptographic assets were stolen.

A security breach was suspected to have occurred recently on the Base network, resulting in the theft of approximately US$6 million worth of cryptographic assets. Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers stole a total of 1,783,067 aBaswstETH from an undisclosed vault through six separate withdrawal transactions.

According to preliminary assessments by security researchers, the attack took advantage of the lending mechanism of the recently whitelisted smart contract vault. Although it has been confirmed that the tokens (aTokens) were extracted from the vault and subsequently exchanged for approximately 1,783,067 wstETH, the specific source of the authorization vulnerability in this attack is unclear.

According to reports, the flow path of funds is as follows: from the vault to the attacker's smart contract, then to the attacker's wallet address, and finally exchanged aTokens for wstETH. Although the first transaction only involved a transfer of one aBaswstETH, five subsequent independent outflow transactions resulted in a total loss of approximately 1,783 wstETH, or approximately US$6 million at current prices.

Blockchain security company PeckShield also reported that address 0x0B5126…B034 extracted approximately 1,783 wstETH on the Base network. Although the address has been marked as a suspected attacker's wallet, the name of the affected agreement and the specific attack method have not been publicly disclosed.
