ETH Abstract announced that it will cease operations on December 15, calling on users to withdraw funds as soon as possible.
Developed by Igloo Inc. Abstract, the Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Pudgy Penguins, announced that it will officially cease operations on December 15. Before the shutdown date, users must withdraw assets through Abstract's Migration Center or its native bridging feature, a process involving a three-hour delay. Once this deadline is exceeded, any funds remaining on the network will become inaccessible.
Closed due to ecosystem challenges
The Abstract team attributed the closure to difficulties with its consumer-facing scaling model. Team members pointed out that the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem is limited, on-chain liquidity is weak, institutional participation is extremely low, and budgets are small compared to competitors. In an official statement, the Abstract team stated that focusing solely on the consumer crypto space proved unsustainable as a long-term strategy. The network has difficulty establishing active DeFi activity or attracting enough liquidity to remain competitive in the Ethereum Layer 2 platform. "A chain operating model that focuses entirely on consumer encryption has proven unsustainable as a stand-alone model." The Abstract team reported.
Migration Plan and Support
Engineers from Abstract will assist in migrating projects currently deployed on the network to other blockchains. Users are advised to safely bridge funds out of the network through official channels to avoid losses. The team also warned of the risks of impostors and fraudulent migration of websites, emphasizing the importance of using legal resources to make withdrawals.
