Shiba Inu Coin Layer 2 suffered a tragic plunge

Shibarium TVL plunged 74% in two days

Shibarium, the Layer 2 network built to expand the Shiba Inu ecosystem, is experiencing a serious liquidity flight. Its total locked position (TVL) plummeted from $121,860 on August 26 to approximately $31,513 on August 28, a drop of about 74% in 48 hours. At the same time, the prices of the tokens represented by the Ethereum address 0x95 ad61b0a 150d 79219dcf 64e1e6cc 01f0b64c4ce and other tokens in the Shibarium ecosystem rose slightly, making the TVL collapse particularly eye-catching-it was more of a demand-side issue than a simple market sell-off.

Recently, trading activity on the Shibarium Decentralized Exchange (DEX) has also dropped sharply. The network is a Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum and aims to increase the scalability of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, speed up transactions and reduce fees. The latest TVL data shows that these goals are far from being achieved.

Continuing adoption problems

The sharp decline in August is just another example of Shibarium's long-term difficulty in attracting substantial capital. Given that the market value of $SHIB is still in the billions of dollars, TVL, worth tens of thousands of dollars, clearly shows that decentralized applications and users have not adopted the chain on a large scale. TVL, continued DEX transaction volume, fee revenue and usage of independent apps are considered more reliable measures of true adoption-and Shibarium continues to disappoint on each of these measures.

The token destruction mechanism linked to Shibarium relies on the network to be used for real transactions, but this goal is far from being achieved. The sluggish TVL shows that demand for network use remains negligible. For destruction to have a substantial impact on prices, Shibarium needs to continue to process millions of transactions every day, but its daily transaction volume currently remains at a low level of thousands.

The lack of TVL confirms that Shibarium has not yet found a unique and persuasive application scenario that can attract developers and users away from the mature Layer 2 network. Rival chains such as Arbitrum and Optimism far exceed Shibarium in every indicator, and the gap is widening rather than narrowing.
