White House official Patrick Witt described the bill's defeat in the Senate as a "huge disappointment." He believes that this result poses a risk to the United States 'leadership position in global finance and may weaken the United States' influence on global financial standard-setting. He pointed out that all parties are now turning to the next measures of the SEC and CFTC.
Witt criticized this as a dereliction of duty on the part of the U.S. leadership. He warned that if the legal process stalled, regulators in Brussels or Beijing could have greater influence on global financial markets in the future. He also thanked President Donald Trump, David Sacks, Senator Cynthia Loomis and other senators for their contributions in the process.

While praising the cooperation between the Treasury Department, the SEC and the CFTC, Witt sent a special letter to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Michael Selig, clearly stating that the key to the next step lies with regulators.
