US Treasury Secretary Basent: Trump\'s cryptocurrency income is unhindered

Cryptocurrency has brought more revenue to Trump than his real estate empire

For President Donald Trump, cryptocurrency has brought more revenue than the real estate empire that made him famous. The 2025 financial disclosure recently released by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics shows that Trump\'s cryptocurrency-related income exceeds $1.4 billion, which exceeds the income he earns from buildings, hotels and golf courses.

The 927-page document divides total revenue into three main sources. About $636 million of that came from royalties from the official Trump memin, which was launched on the Solana blockchain two days before his second inauguration. Another $594 million came from the DeFi project \"World Free Finance,\" which he co-founded with his sons Eric and Donald Jr. The remaining $197 million came from an equity sale related to a stablecoin project.

Basent says there are no superficial problems

Treasury Secretary Scott Basent said he believes there is nothing wrong with Trump\'s cryptocurrency revenue. In an interview with CBS News on July 2, Besant said he did not believe Trump\'s disclosure of cryptocurrency revenue would cause concerns. He told anchor Kelly O\'Grady:\"I don\'t think there is a superficial problem. \"He added that his association with cryptocurrencies was earlier than before he took office.

Congressional Democrats criticize

Congressional Democrats have criticized the revenue as a possible conflict of interest, pointing to the current administration\'s push for deregulation of cryptocurrencies. Besent gave a different interpretation of this. He described the administration\'s approach as part of an \"innovative presidency\" that covers digital assets, artificial intelligence and broader technology. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly echoed that stance earlier this week, saying there was no conflict of interest in the disclosure.
